Turkey’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz Meets Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran

Turkey’s vice president, Cevdet Yılmaz, met President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran and conveyed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s message of condolence over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Yılmaz arrived in Tehran on Friday at the head of a delegation to attend the official ceremony honoring the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and he reaffirmed Turkey’s sympathy and support for Iran in the face of recent tragic events.

In Tehran, Pezeshkian appreciated Turkey’s solidarity and described it as a sign of deep historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two nations.

Pezeshkian also warned against Israel’s “destructive role” in West Asia, saying the regime has played a direct role in many regional crises while attempting to portray others as the source of insecurity.

A local Iranian official said as many as 400 Turkish pilgrims from border provinces entered Iran and departed for Tehran to attend the funeral of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

Mehr News Agency reported that Arsalan Shukri, Director General of Road Administration and Road Transport of West Azarbaijan Province, told it that, "Today and yesterday, 400 pilgrims from Turkey set off for Tehran through the province's borders to attend the funeral of the Leader of the Revolution."

Shukri added that the pilgrims were transported in 13 buses to attend the funeral in Tehran.

The report said the pilgrims entered Iran in groups from the Bazargan border crossing and were welcomed at the Bazargan border terminal by officials and a group of provincial officials.

Borna News Agency of Qazvin said Turkish devotees and pilgrims who came to the capital for the funeral ceremony were welcomed and hosted at the Mohammadieh Municipality’s mukeb and the Islamic City Council of Mohammadieh.

The report quoted Mohammad Piri, the mayor of Mohammadieh, thanking the Turkish pilgrims for their presence at the funeral procession of the holy body of the martyr leader of the Islamic Revolution before escorting them to Tehran.

In the ABNA English account of the Tehran meeting, Cevdet Yılmaz underlined Turkey’s commitment to expanding bilateral relations with Iran in economy, trade, energy, transit, and investment.

ABNA English also said Yılmaz stated that Turkish people share Iran’s grief, especially after the martyrdom of Iranian civilians, including students in the southern city of Minab.
