Funeral, threats, and diplomacy
Iran’s senior leadership joined prayers Sunday over the casket of late supreme leader Ali Khamenei during a second day of funeral ceremonies, as the diplomatic and security backdrop remained tense.
“The head of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, denied the existence of any peace with the United States, considering it an untrustworthy party, and affirmed that his country would not formally recognize Israel, according to what was reported by the state television”
In a message posted on X, Iran’s embassy in Armenia condemned US President Donald Trump’s claim that Washington could eliminate Iran’s senior leadership gathered at the funeral “in one shot,” writing: "People can be killed, but ideals cannot."

Trump, speaking in an interview with Axios, said he was surprised by the crowds at Khamenei’s funeral and claimed the remaining Iranian leadership could be targeted, adding: "One shot, and we can take them all out."
The Times of India said Khamenei is lying in state in Tehran, with funeral processions scheduled through Tehran, Qom, Najaf and Karbala, and burial in Mashhad on July 9 after funeral ceremonies conclude.
The same report said the state-organised ceremonies have drawn large crowds and included chants of "Death to America," while mourners carried portraits of Khamenei and his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei.
Parliament speaker sets red lines
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said there is “no peace between his country and America,” while also arguing that implementing the U.S.-Iran understanding is “difficult but possible.”
In a televised interview, Ghalibaf said the Islamic Republic is pursuing a “stable peace” so that war does not repeat, while stressing Tehran’s distrust of Washington over nuclear issues and the Strait of Hormuz.

Ghalibaf also framed diplomacy as inseparable from defense readiness, saying “the greatest backing in diplomacy is this readiness,” and he told a meeting with Hezbollah’s Mohammad Fanish that Hezbollah’s ties with Iran are “based on religious and revolutionary ties.”
In the same reporting, the Iranian Parliament speaker said Tehran would not formally recognize Israel and that it would support the “Resistance Front” with missiles when needed, while also pledging to pursue negotiations under clear red lines.
The Jerusalem Post reported that former Israeli ambassador to the US Danny Ayalon described the U.S.-Iran arrangement as a “massive surrender” to Iran, saying “the Iranians are setting the tone, the US is releasing funds to Iran.”
Axis of Resistance and stakes
As Iran’s funeral week continued, Ghalibaf met Hamas Movement’s leader of the governing council Mohammad Ismail Darwish in Tehran and said Iran will continue its support for the “Resistance Front,” clarifying that the support “will be with missiles if needed, or pressure through negotiations if required.”
“Until the first five clauses of the understanding are implemented, we will not move to the next stages”
In the same context, Darwish told Iranian officials that Islamabad’s understandings represent “a victory for Iran and a defeat for the United States,” and he described the “Al-Aqsa Flood” as “the greatest defeat Israel has suffered in its history since its founding.”
Ghalibaf also said vengeance for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would be “by liberating Jerusalem,” and he reiterated: "We do not make peace with the United States and we will not recognize Israel."
Tabnak reported that Ghalibaf, speaking on television about the “Islamabad understanding” and Switzerland talks, said: "Until the first five clauses of the understanding are implemented, we will not move to the next stages."
Tabnak added that Ghalibaf said Iran is “also ready for war” and that it would “sell oil at 20 percent higher prices,” while describing mediators “namely Pakistan and Qatar” pursuing facilitation and Article 13 implementation.
