Six months, mounting fallout
Six months after the start of the Iran war, Reuters reported that the conflict described by President Donald Trump as a “short trip” has become a crisis that threatens to undermine his presidency, with Iran not yielding and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz “highly disrupted.”

Reuters said there was “no clear path to end the conflict,” and it listed six consequences including that Trump’s approval rating fell from 40% to 33% since the conflict began.
Reuters also said the American military lost drones and aircraft due to Iranian strikes and other incidents, and a May report from the Congressional Research Service stated that 42 U.S. military aircraft were lost in the conflict.
In Rochester, N.Y., WHAM reported that retired Marine Tommy Mach said he was in Abu Dhabi on a business trip when “things suddenly became serious,” and he later described waiting for a flight while hearing “explosions above an airport.”
People evacuated, politics tested
WHAM said two people shared their stories after being evacuated from the Middle East during the Iran and U.S. conflict, and Tommy Mach said it frustrates him that the war is still ongoing and “it shouldn’t have begun in the first place.”
Mach told WHAM, “I hope that it ends quickly,” and he added, “I hope that we can bring our troops back.”
In the same WHAM report, local business owner Pouya Seifzadeh said, “This is not a regime that you can trust,” and he described it as pursuing nuclear weapons from the 1990s.
Reuters’ six-month consequences framed the political stakes in the U.S., saying “Trump pays a political price” and that opposition grew as the war did not enjoy broad initial support.
Escalation and readiness
As the conflict entered its sixth month, Reuters reported that Iran was targeted but not defeated, saying Tehran can still launch attacks and keep the Hormuz Strait under closure.

6abc Philadelphia added that the renewed fighting followed a month without military action and threatened to fully reignite a conflict that has spiked global oil prices, while Trump warned on social media that if Iran retaliates “they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level.”
