650 drones hit Moscow

Ukraine launched a massive overnight drone attack on the Moscow region with 650 drones, and Russian authorities said the strike killed two men and injured nine people. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said, "650 drones were launched toward the Moscow region" and added that "most (were) destroyed by air defences at long range." Moscow Region governor Andrei Vorobyov said 185 drones were "destroyed or neutralised" overnight over 16 municipalities, while he reported that the attack killed a 71-year-old man in Barybino and a 20-year-old man in Radumlya.

Rescue services recovered the body of the 71-year-old man while removing debris from a destroyed building in Barybino, and authorities confirmed the death of the 20-year-old in Radumlya. The attack also set a major fuel depot on fire, with the target described as the Volodarskaya line production and dispatch station near Konstantinovo, according to monitoring channels and Russian state media.

Deaths, injuries, and damage

Vorobyov said nine people were injured and that 47 houses were damaged across seven municipalities in the Moscow region, while he also reported that four apartments in a residential building in the village of Lobanovo were damaged. The governor of the Moscow region said rescuers found the body of a 71-year-old man under the rubble of a destroyed private house in Barybino, and he said a woman was injured there. Sobyanin reported that 105 drones were destroyed as they approached Moscow, and he said Russian air defenses destroyed most of the drones in distant zones.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed it shot down 868 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, and it said its air defense systems intercepted the drones as they approached. The Kyiv Independent said eyewitness footage from Konstantinovo appeared to show flames erupting from the Volodarsk facility as smoke billowed, and it noted the site was around 450 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Oil hub and wider war

Ukrainian drones targeted a major oil depot that supplies fuel to three Russian capital airports, and the Kyiv Post described the apparent target as the Volodarskaya Line Production and Dispatch Station. The Kyiv Post said the Volodarskaya facility can handle up to 3 million metric tons of petroleum products a year, including gasoline, aviation fuel and diesel, and it said fuel from the facility is supplied to Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo. The Kyiv Independent reported that the Volodarsk facility is the largest oil depot in the Moscow region, and it said pipelines connect the Volodarsk site to major airports in the Moscow region.

The Times of India said Ukraine’s Defence Ministry claimed that more than 51 per cent of Russia’s oil refining capacity was out of action, and it quoted the ministry’s statement on X: "More than 51 per cent of Russia’s oil refining capacity is out of action". Russia said it planned to increase strikes on infrastructure targets, including in Kyiv, as winter approaches, and the Washington Post described Kyiv as bracing for an expected huge aerial attack.
