Wedding strike in Hormozgan
The United States launched strikes on Iran on Tuesday for the second time in a few days, and the Iranian Red Crescent said shrapnel from a U.S. missile attack hit a home where a wedding celebration was taking place in Sirik in southern Iran.

In Kuhestak, in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, Ahmad Nafisi, vice governor of Hormozgan province, previously reported two deaths, while the Iranian Red Crescent said four people were killed, including a child, and more than 50 were injured.
BBC reported that American forces resumed strikes against Iran on Tuesday, with US Central Command (Centcom) saying the strikes followed "recent attempted attacks" by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The BBC also said Iran retaliated after the US strikes killed four at the wedding party, with state media reporting that Iran launched attacks at US military bases in Iraq and Jordan.
In the same incident, Al-Manar TV Lebanon said the US army bombarded a wedding in the Kuhstak Sirik area, Hormozgan City, and reported "4 martyrs, including a kid, and 50 injuries."
Retaliation across Jordan
After the wedding attack, Iran launched attacks at US military bases in Iraq and Jordan, according to local state media and the Jordanian Armed Forces, and the IRGC said the US would "regret" the strikes.
By early Wednesday, BBC reported that Iran had launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at a US Marine base in Jordan's Aqaba in retaliation for the Sirik attack, and the Jordanian Armed Forces said it had intercepted 13 ballistic missiles.
BBC said the Jordanian Armed Forces reported that "10 of which were destroyed, while three fell in remote areas," and it added that there were no deaths or injuries as a result of the attack from Iran.
In parallel, the BBC reported that Donald Trump warned that Iran would be hit again at "a much harder and higher level" if it retaliated, and it quoted US Navy Captain Tim Hawkins saying, "The US military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC."
AmeliaRueda also tied the escalation to the Strait of Hormuz, saying the attacks came after "recent aggression attempts by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and against U.S. troops deployed in the region," according to the U.S. Central Command said on X.
Regional escalation and stakes
The BBC described the broader conflict as following wide-ranging strikes on Iran on 28 February, with Iran responding by attacking Israel, US bases and allied states in the Gulf, and it said the war effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz to marine traffic.

BBC also said a US-Iran agreement, known as the Memorandum of Understanding, to extend a ceasefire was signed in June but has expired, leading to a resumption of hostilities, while it noted that both sides have fired on shipping and Washington announced a fresh sanctions campaign on 24 August.
In the immediate aftermath of the wedding strike, CNA reported that Iran launched strikes on Wednesday (Sep 2) targeting American interests in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan after vowing "severe punishment" in response to US attacks.
CNA said the Iranian Revolutionary Guards targeted Camp Titin in Jordan for an "intense ballistic missile attack," and it added that the Jordanian army said it intercepted 10 ballistic missiles fired from Iran.
Clarin (AP) reported that the renewed fighting followed President Donald Trump warning on social media that "If the failed nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be struck again at a much harder and higher level," and it quoted Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian saying Iran was ready to return to the provisional High-Temp Ceasefire if Washington does the same.
