The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said China hopes the visit will “further strengthen the two sides' political and strategic mutual trust” and contribute to world peace and global stability.

Mao Ning said Wang Yi will co-chair with Mauro Vieira the fifth Global Strategic Dialogue at the foreign ministers level between China and Brazil during the visit scheduled from May 31 to June 2.

One-China and multilateralism

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said Brazil would always adhere to the one-China principle, and he told reporters that Brazil looks forward to consolidating strategic mutual trust with China and deepening practical cooperation.

Xinhua and CGTN both framed the dialogue as part of broader coordination, with Wang Yi calling for the two sides to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state and to jointly respond to various external challenges.

Mao Ning said China and Brazil are respectively the two largest developing countries in the eastern and western hemispheres and both are important members of BRICS and the Global South, with Sino-Brazilian relations “occupy a leading position among the relations that China maintains with other developing countries.”

In the same press briefing, Mao Ning said China hopes to strengthen communication and coordination within multilateral mechanisms including the United Nations and BRICS and to “actively act on the four major global initiatives” to establish a more just and equitable global governance system.

Global South diplomacy

The Global Times said the visit is expected to include discussions on positions on safeguarding multilateralism, and it quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning as saying the visit should demonstrate a sense of responsibility in promoting solidarity and cooperation among Global South countries.

Global Times also reported that Itamaraty said in 2025 bilateral trade reached a new all-time high for the 10th consecutive year, totaling $170.9 billion, while the trade balance for Brazil reached $29 billion.

In a separate report, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the upcoming visit would help advance the building of a China-Brazil community with a shared future and contribute to world peace and global stability through the efforts of China and Brazil.

BNamericas reported that Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira met with representatives of Chinese companies including Sany Group and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), with the government seeking to attract Chinese firms to establish factories in Brazil in mining and energy.
