Maldives Token Sale Delayed
World Liberty Financial, the cryptocurrency project backed by the Trump family, delayed plans to sell a token tied to a resort in the Maldives, with Bloomberg reporting the token was planned to go on sale next year but has been pushed back.
“The token was planned to go on sale next year, giving investors a share of revenue from loans financing the Trump-branded resort”
CoinDesk reported that the token sale was delayed because the Iran war is disrupting travel in the region, and it said it is unclear when the token will now be listed.

CoinDesk also said World Liberty Financial tapped real-world asset (RWA) platform Securitize in February to help represent loan interests tied to the resort’s development as a digital token that could be traded onchain.
The same CoinDesk report said the protocol’s native token WLFI rose by 2.7% on the news before giving back all of the gains and returning to parity, and it is now down by 88.5% from its record high in September, 2025.
Why the Launch Slipped
Bloomberg, as cited by CoinDesk and also by bloomingbit, tied the postponement to travel disruptions caused by the war with Iran, and bloomingbit said a new launch date has not been set.
bloomingbit reported that World Liberty Financial and its partners postponed the sale that had initially been planned for this spring, and it described the token as structured to securitize loan claims used to finance the resort’s development.

The token was designed to offer investors a fixed return and a portion of the lending income, and bloomingbit said the Maldives resort is being developed by UK property developer Dar Global.
Dar Global’s chief executive officer Ziad El Chaar said the company continues to review development and launch schedules for its global projects in line with market conditions, regulatory requirements and long-term strategic goals.
Partnerships and Next Steps
CoinDesk said World Liberty Financial’s venture is part of its plans in tokenization, the representation of RWAs on blockchains in token form, and it said WLFI is exploring this concept not just in real estate but in commodities like oil and gas.
“about 80 luxury beach and overwater villas”
Briefs Finance said the resort itself is still being built and that British developer DAR Global Plc is behind the project, which is planned to have about 80 luxury beach and overwater villas.
Briefs Finance also quoted Dar Global CEO Ziad El Chaar saying, "Dar Global continues to advance its partnership with the Trump Organization," and it added that he said the company consistently evaluates development and roll-out schedules to align with market conditions, regulatory requirements, and long-term strategic objectives.
CoinDesk reported that a World Liberty Financial spokesperson declined to comment, while it said the company did not immediately respond when contacted by CoinDesk for additional comment.
