X replaces ‘misaligned’ revenue sharing program with Original Content Rewards

08 August, 2026

Full story

X ends revenue sharing

X is winding down its long-running Creator Revenue Sharing program and replacing it with the Original Content Rewards Program, with the old program ending after September 7, 2026.

X stopped accepting new Revenue Sharing enrollments immediately and will wind the program down entirely after Sept. 7.

X says it stopped accepting new Revenue Sharing enrollments immediately and that existing creators will receive three final payouts scheduled for mid-August, late August, and around September 11 to cover earnings through the cutoff date.

The new program ties earnings to “qualified impressions” rather than the advertising-revenue split that defined the old system, and it requires that qualified impressions come from unique, verified Premium subscribers viewing at least half of a post on the Home Timeline.

X’s Creators account said the program is meant to “reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X,” and it says copied or aggregated content will not qualify.

X Head of Creators Allegra Jacchia said the shift is needed because the existing program’s incentives had become “misaligned,” with some creators reusing content from others to earn payouts rather than producing original material.

How payouts will work

Under the Original Content Rewards Program, X says creators earn money from qualified impressions received on original content, with payouts issued every two weeks and the first payout scheduled for August 28.

X says qualified impressions must come from unique impressions from Premium users on the Home Timeline feed where at least 50 per cent of the post is visible, and it says duplicated, paid, promoted, or fraudulent impressions do not count.

X also sets eligibility requirements including being at least 18 years old, living in an eligible country, holding a Personal or Business account in good standing, subscribing to a paid X tier, and having at least 500 verified followers.

X says creators must also have at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users over the prior 90 days, and it says those requirements must be maintained continuously to keep receiving payouts.

In X’s own guidance on what counts as original, the company says content that is “copied, reuploaded without authorship, generated through automated means, or reposted with only minor edits” won’t qualify.

Eligibility, enforcement, and timing

Starting September 8, 2026, existing Revenue Sharing members can apply for the new program if they meet eligibility requirements, and X says existing members will keep earning through September 7, 2026.

X says “Existing Revenue Sharing creators who enroll in Original Content Rewards once they are eligible on or after September 8th will receive their first payment on September 25th, 2026,” and it also says the first payout under the new program is scheduled for August 28.

Gulf News reports X introduced restrictions on AI-generated videos depicting armed conflicts, saying that since March 3, 2026, creators who post AI-generated conflict videos without disclosing that the content was made using AI can be suspended from Creator Revenue Sharing for 90 days.

X also says creators must connect a Stripe payout account or an X Money Account where available and complete identity verification, and it sets a minimum payout of $30.

In its statement about the program’s purpose, X said it is “evolving how creators earn,” and it frames the change as rewarding original work rather than engagement-farming reposts.
