OIC meeting and blockade

Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates called on Muslim countries to play a constructive role and end the “atrocious Saudi aggression and inhumane blockade” against Yemen, which the ministry said has been in effect for more than a decade. Yemen’s foreign ministry said the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) opened in Baghdad on Saturday and urged participants not to accept a Saudi allegation that Yemeni Armed Forces launched drone and missile attacks towards the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

Yemen’s foreign ministry denounced the Saudi claim as an “outright lie,” and it said the ministry’s demands center on ending the conflict and lifting the blockade. Yemen’s foreign ministry warned that maritime navigation in the Red Sea remains secure, and it said any escalation by Saudi Arabia will pose a threat to shipping routes.

Iran rejects Saudi accusations

Ismail Begai, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen and said Iran is committed to resolving issues through diplomacy. Begai said the developments of the last 12 years showed that “foreign intervention, a military approach, and blockade are not the solution to Yemen’s problem.”

Begai dismissed a claim by a Saudi foreign ministry official about Iran’s role in encouraging Yemenis to attack Saudi Arabia, and he emphasized that solving Yemen’s issue requires respecting Yemen’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Begai said Iran does not view heightened tensions as beneficial to any party, while he also said the Yemeni armed forces act based on their own interests and assessments.

New equations inside Saudi

Al-Mayadeen described Sanaa’s responses to Saudi tensions as going beyond traditional military retaliation, and it said the escalation imposed new field equations under “Riyadh vs. Sana’a, Airport vs. Airport, and Oil vs. Oil.”

Major General Abdul-Salam Safian told Al-Mayadeen Net that an operation’s timing was “very sensitive for Saudi Arabia,” and he said it coincided with the launch of the “Fajr Yemen” operation by Rashad al-Alimi.

Safian said the operation would “cause immense confusion for the Saudis,” and he added that “this will not be the first and last operation.”

Safian said Yemeni armed forces reported three operations on October 5 targeting locations inside Saudi Arabia, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the Aramco refinery in Rabigh, and military sites, and he said additional operations were announced on October 11 targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.
