The West Blacked Out a Genocide That Never Stopped
Palestinian journalists are still documenting Israel's killing of Palestinians in Gaza, and dying to do it. Western outlets, who were never allowed in, have all but stopped reporting it: since the October 2025 ‘ceasefire’ their Gaza coverage has collapsed by about three quarters, even as the killing continues. This is the data on who went dark, and who did not.

The genocide never stopped. It just became an even less covered one.
Across nearly three years, NewsCord tracked every Gaza article from a fixed panel of major outlets. While Israel’s genocide filled the front pages, coverage was constant. The moment the October 2025 ‘ceasefire’ was declared, Western coverage collapsed, although Israel kept bombing, shooting and starving Palestinians.

The killing did not stop: Israel killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in attacks during the truce, while the official toll climbed past 73,000 as thousands more bodies were pulled from the rubble. The collapse was a Western editorial choice
The drop is not explained by the genocide ending, because it did not end. Arab and independent outlets kept reporting; some increased. It is the Western mainstream and tabloid press that switched off.
The killing slowed. The silence did not follow the killing.
A fair question: did coverage fall simply because fewer Palestinians were dying? The monthly killing rate did fall after the truce. But Israel still killed more than 1,000 in attacks, the official toll rose by nearly 6,000 as bodies were recovered from the rubble, and the coverage fell far faster than any of it.
In Nov 2025 to Feb 2026, the entire Western mainstream we track published about 1,017 Gaza articles in total, even as the official toll rose by roughly 3,452 and Israel kept striking tents, hospitals and aid queues.
Even measured against every death the Health Ministry recorded, including the thousands pulled from the rubble, coverage in those months fell by more than two thirds. The dead were being counted; they were just no longer being reported.
Who went dark
Monthly Gaza output for each major outlet, before the ‘ceasefire’ versus during it. Voice of America went to zero. The Telegraph, Washington Post, AP, Sky News and the New York Times each cut Gaza coverage by around 80 to 90 percent.
TRT World (+58%), Mondoweiss (+21%), Drop Site News (+15%), Le Monde (-26%), Middle East Monitor (-27%). While Western flagships went quiet, Arab broadcasters and independent newsrooms held the line, and a few covered Gaza more than they had before the ‘ceasefire’.
What a massacre used to be worth
When Israel attacked hospitals, schools and camps before the ‘ceasefire’, dozens of Western outlets covered it within days. We counted the distinct Western outlets that reported each massacre.

When Israel raided al-Shifa hospital in March 2024, more than 20 Western outlets covered it within three days. In February 2026, as Israel kept striking Gaza during the “ceasefire”, the entire Western mainstream press we track published just 158 Gaza articles in the whole month, down from 5,709 at the height of the genocide.
