About this analysis

The Jerusalem Post runs a Reuters report that senior Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials will meet Iranian officials in Tehran, attributing the plan to two unnamed sources and setting it against Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and the Mecca defence pact. It names the US and Israel as the parties waging the offensive against Iran and describes the Houthis as themselves. Nothing in it misleads the reader.

What it gets right

  • “the US-Israeli offensive against Iran”

The article names the US and Israel as the parties waging the offensive in its own voice, rather than writing it as a faceless conflict that simply happened.

  • “Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis”

The article names the Houthis as themselves and describes their relationship to Iran as alignment, not as a proxy acting on someone else's orders.

  • “two people with knowledge of the matter said”

The headline and body keep the meeting plan attributed to anonymous sources throughout, so the reader knows it is not yet confirmed.
