Anadolu Agency (English), on Gaza, 25 October 2026

Anadolu names Israeli occupation forces as the actor in nearly every attack it reports, calls the assault a genocidal war and carries the cumulative toll. One sentence softens three killings into "lost their lives", against the article's own wording elsewhere and against the other coverage of the same strike.

    “Three Palestinians lost their lives”

    What the words do
Anadolu writes the three deaths at the Islamic University as people who "lost their lives" rather than as people Israel killed.
What a reader comes away believing
A reader takes the three deaths as a misfortune that befell them, not as a killing by an Israeli air strike.
    What is actually the case
The article's own headline and opening sentence say Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks, and Al Jazeera reports the three at the university were killed in an Israeli air strike on the campus.

6 Palestinians killed, 10 injured in Israeli attacks across Gaza

At least six Palestinians were killed and 10 others injured, including five university students, in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, in further violations of last year’s ceasefire agreement, medical sources said. and others were injured in an Israeli strike on the Islamic University campus in Gaza City, one of the sources told Anadolu. The attack came shortly after five students were injured, some critically, when an Israeli drone strike targeted a gathering of students on campus, the university said in a statement. The university suspended administrative and academic activities at its Gaza City premises following the attack, which caused panic among students and displaced Palestinians sheltering on campus after their homes were destroyed during Israel’s genocidal war. In northern Gaza, an Israeli strike on a gathering of civilians along Al-Rashid coastal road in the northwest of the enclave wounded several Palestinians, medical sources said, without specifying their number. A Palestinian was also hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the foot after Israeli forces opened fire in the Al-Faluja area west of Jabalia refugee camp. In southern Gaza, two Palestinians were killed and three others injured in an Israeli strike in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis, according to medical sources. The sources also reported that a woman sustained moderate injuries from Israeli gunfire in Khan Younis. Israeli artillery also shelled areas east and south of the city, while gunboats fired bullets and shells toward its coast, witnesses told Anadolu. In central Gaza, a 33-year-old man was killed in an Israeli strike east of Deir al-Balah. At dawn Sunday, Israeli forces carried out two demolitions of homes and buildings in areas under their control in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of eastern Gaza City, causing two large explosions, local sources said. Despite a ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, the Israeli army has killed 1,551 Palestinians and injured 5,573 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Since October 2023, Israel's war in Gaza has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and wounded over 175,000, while causing widespread destruction to about 90% of the territory's civilian infrastructure.
