Support us Labour has given the green light to new fuel and vehicle rules that are set to be introduced over the coming years. Following a consultation earlier this year, the Government has decided to proceed with updating the minimum emission standard for new road vehicles in Great Britain to Euro 7.
A statutory instrument will be introduced to update the minimum emission standard to Euro 7 for certain vehicles over the coming years. This will include all new unlimited-volume light-duty vehicle registrations in Great Britain from November 29, 2027, and for small-volume manufacturers from July 1, 2030. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say Euro 7 is the latest emissions standard for new vehicles outlined by the European Commission and gradually tightens rules to improve air quality.
Manufacturers will be required to ensure that cars and vans will maintain Euro 7 emissions for 10 years or 200,000 kilometres. Euro 7 will be the strictest standard yet and, for the first time, will include electric vehicles, alongside petrol, diesel and hybrid models. New rules have been approved for electric vehicles and the requirements associated with the durability of batteries. Euro 7 rules are to be introduced for new vehicles next year following a consultation | GETTY The consultation received 67 responses in total, including a number of vehicle manufacturers, private individuals and industry trade bodies.
When asked whether Euro 7 should apply to light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, the overwhelming majority agreed that it should be introduced. Respondents outlined that adopting Euro 7 would minimise regulatory divergence, reduce administrative burdens and provide manufacturers with regulatory certainty for investment and development. The Government said it would launch a consultation on putting Euro 7 rules on heavy-duty vehicles once the EU's legislation is further developed.

It added: "This would also apply to Euro 7-TEMP approvals, which are temporary EU approvals that let manufacturers certify vehicles before all the Euro 7 requirements apply. "Manufacturers wishing to approve vehicles in Great Britain should be cautious to rely on this route ahead of, or close to, the EU's new types date of November 29, 2026." Any automaker wanting to approve Euro 7 vehicles for sale in Great Britain is advised to consider using approvals to UN Regulations.
