There was no mention of a discussion of the US-Israel war on Iran, which has seen Iran conduct missile and drone strikes on a range of targets across the region, including in Qatar. Doha has been taking part in mediation efforts to end the nearly eight-month-old war. At a weekly briefing on Tuesday, a foreign ministry spokesman called for Iran to stop threatening Gulf states so that diplomacy can help to defuse tensions in the Middle East.

The article says there was no mention of a discussion of the war, drawing only on Iranian state media. The Qatari emir's office said the two leaders discussed the Middle East war and the blockaded Strait of Hormuz. Without this, a reader may believe the war was not on the agenda at all.

What we found (1)

Al Jazeera reports the meeting between Iran's President Pezeshkian and Qatar's Emir in Moscow, attributing the readout to Iranian state media and naming the war as the US-Israel war on Iran. Its line that the war went unmentioned rests only on the Iranian readout. The emir's office said the two leaders discussed the war and the Strait of Hormuz, and the article does not say so. Nothing else in it misleads.

  • “the US-Israel war on Iran”

Al Jazeera names who waged the war in its own voice rather than calling it a vague regional conflict.

  • “Iranian state media reported”

The article attributes the account of the meeting to its source instead of stating it as established fact.

  • “a foreign ministry spokesman called for Iran to stop threatening Gulf states”

The demand is attributed to the spokesman who made it, not written in the outlet's own voice.
