Gaza officials say Israeli strikes kill four

GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories: Palestinian officials said Israeli strikes killed four people in Gaza on Wednesday, days after the anniversary of the declaration of a US-mediated ceasefire.

Two young men died when Israeli forces struck a vehicle near Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal and Nasser Hospital said.

Two other people, including a woman, were killed when an Israeli aircraft struck an apartment building in Gaza City, according to Bassal and Al-Shifa hospital.

The Israeli military did not immediately give details on the strikes. Earlier Wednesday, it said it had killed more than 100 “terrorists” over the past four months in an operation in the north of the Gaza Strip.

The military said it also destroyed around eight kilometers (five miles) of tunnels used by militants.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces a tight reelection battle this month, has vowed no let-up in targeting Hamas despite the ceasefire that went into effect on October 10, 2025, leading Hamas to free its remaining living hostages.

Hamas stormed into Israel on October 7, 2023, the deadliest day ever for the country. The attack resulted in the deaths of 1,221 people, according to an AFP tally from official Israeli figures, with militants also dragging 251 hostages into Gaza, 44 of them already dead.

Israel’s massive offensive in Gaza has since killed more than 74,300 people, according to the territory’s health ministry, and whose figures are generally considered reliable by the United Nations.

What we found (1)

Arab News reports four Palestinians killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza, names Israeli forces as the attackers in each case, and keeps the IOF's "terrorists" claim inside quotation marks. Its one tilt is in the closing toll, where it ties the Palestinian figure to Hamas while the Israeli figure carries only a neutral-sounding source.

  1. Doubts one side's dead and not the other's

    Minor

    “which operates under Hamas”

    Why this matters
The words "which operates under Hamas" attach the Palestinian toll to Hamas. The Israeli toll two sentences earlier carries only a neutral source.
    The impression it gives
A reader may come away thinking the Palestinian count is less trustworthy than the Israeli one, because only the Palestinian count is tied to a party.
    The context
The same sentence says the UN considers the ministry's figures reliable. The Israeli toll is sourced to "official Israeli figures" with no note that they come from a party. The asymmetry is small, because both figures are attributed.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“according to an AFP tally from official Israeli figures”

    Show it in the article

What it gets right

  • “Israeli forces struck a vehicle near Khan Yunis”

It names who carried out the strike that killed the two young men, rather than writing an explosion with no actor.

  • “were killed when an Israeli aircraft struck an apartment building in Gaza City”

It says the people were killed and names the Israeli aircraft that killed them.

  • “it said it had killed more than 100 “terrorists””

It attributes the label to the military and keeps it in quotation marks, so the outlet does not adopt it in its own voice.
