Tucker Carlson makes audacious claim the US could nuke Iran's Pickax Mountain

Trump could lose his Republican majority – and the Iran conflict is a major reason why (Picture: Getty) Conservative podcaster Tucker Carlson has made lofty claims that the Trump administration could launch a nuclear strike on Iran in just ‘days’. Iran has been a major talking point ahead of the US midterm elections tomorrow, which could see Donald Trump lose his Republican majority in Congress. Carlson released a lengthy statement on social media this weekend, claiming that Trump is facing pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who lost his majority party in recent elections. ‘The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program.

No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place,’ Carlson claimed. ‘The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. “Bibi calls Trump about it every day,” says an informed observer.’ Carlson has become more outspoken against Trump (Picture: Reuters) Carlson pointed out that Netanyahu is ‘cornered’ and unable to form a government unless ‘Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties’. ‘Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail.

Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war,’ Carlson said. Citing Russian sources, Carlson added that an American nuclear strike would allow Pakistan and India to attack each other, and North Korea to strike South Korea, beginning and ending World War Three – a ‘short and final’ war. Earlier this year, Trump wrote on Truth Social: ‘A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again. But maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?’

In April, explosive claims said that Trump tried to use US nuclear weapons on Iran – but was stopped by a General. The chances of Trump using a nuclear weapon in Iran remain low, but Carlson’s claims have sparked conversation online. Former MAGA ally Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote: ‘This would be crimes against humanity. It must be stopped.’ Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk. Left out here: Leaves out what changes the picture

The article never says that Trump explicitly ruled out using nuclear weapons against Iran in an October 16 interview: 'I wouldn't use nuclear. We don't have to.' It also omits that Carlson gave no independently verifiable evidence, and that neither Washington nor Jerusalem confirmed a nuclear strike was being considered. Metro instead sets Trump's 'whole civilisation will die' post and unsourced April claims beside Carlson's statement. A reader is left believing the president has never addressed or denied the idea.

Metro reports Tucker Carlson's claim that the US could launch a nuclear strike on Pickax Mountain, attributes his claims to him throughout and says the chances of such a strike remain low. It leaves out Trump's October 16 statement that he would not use nuclear weapons against Iran, and that neither Washington nor Jerusalem confirmed any strike was being considered, a minor gap.

What it gets right

  • “Conservative podcaster Tucker Carlson has made lofty claims”

Metro marks the nuclear strike scenario as Carlson's claim from the outset rather than stating it as fact.

  • “Carlson claimed”

The Israeli intelligence assertion about restarted enrichment stays inside Carlson's quotation and is attributed. The outlet does not present Iran's nuclear activity as established fact in its own voice.
