Postecoglou joins Al Nassr
Ange Postecoglou has been appointed head coach of Al Nassr on a two-year deal, with the Saudi club announcing that "The contract spans two seasons."
The appointment comes as Postecoglou takes over an Al-Nassr side led by Cristiano Ronaldo, who helped the club to the Saudi Pro League title on the final day of the season in May under Jorge Jesus, who stood down after the title success.
Postecoglou, who previously managed Tottenham and was sacked two weeks later after they finished 17th in the Premier League, is now set to coach Ronaldo after the Australian’s return to management.
The Guardian also notes that Postecoglou was linked with the Scotland job after Steve Clarke stepped down following their World Cup exit, and that media reports said his wage demands were too high for the central Asian side.
Ronaldo’s new coach
Sky Sports says Postecoglou will coach Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League after being named the new Al Nassr boss, and it adds that this will be his first return to management since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in October after just 39 days in charge.
The club’s social media announcement, as quoted by Sky Sports, stated: "A new chapter. Mr Ange Postecoglou as coach of the first football team at Al-Nassr club."
Sky Sports also frames the timing by noting that Jorge Jesus led the team to the title but had only been on a one-year contract, and that Roberto Martinez was linked with the role while currently coaching Ronaldo at the World Cup.
The New York Times similarly reports that Postecoglou replaces Jorge Jesus at Saudi champions Al Nassr, whose squad includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman.
What changes next
Multiple outlets describe Postecoglou’s immediate task as reviving his career after short, difficult spells in England, with The Guardian saying he was sacked two weeks after Tottenham finished 17th and that his Nottingham Forest reign ended 40 days after his appointment.

The New York Times adds that Postecoglou’s spell at the City Ground encompassed just eight matches, in which his side failed to register a win, and it notes that he has been doing punditry work for British broadcaster ITV during the summer’s World Cup.
Fox Sports says Postecoglou will be in charge of a dressing room that includes Joao Felix, Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, and it describes the move as Postecoglou teaming up with "football legend Cristiano Ronaldo."
In the club’s own statement as carried by Maxifoot, the appointment is presented as a new chapter with a contract extending for two seasons, and it is posted alongside the message "Fصلً جديد .. > السيد آنج بوستيكوجلو مدربًا للفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي".
