Apple Releases macOS 27 Golden Gate With Siri AI, Performance Improvements, and Intel Support Dropped

Golden Gate Arrives
Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate, bringing Siri AI, expanded Apple Intelligence features, design refinements, and performance improvements to compatible Macs.

The free update is available through System Settings > General > Software Update for Macs powered by Apple silicon, and Apple has dropped support for Intel processors with this year’s major release.
MacOS 27 Golden Gate arrived on September 14, and the update is described as building on macOS 26 Tahoe rather than reinventing macOS all over again.
MacOS 27 Golden Gate’s biggest upgrade is a complete overhaul of Siri, with Siri able to understand personal context, search across files and photos using natural language, and perform more complex actions across apps.
The update also includes a rebuilt indexing system for Spotlight, Mail, and Photos, with the stated goal of faster searches and more relevant results.
Siri AI, Liquid Glass
Macworld says Siri AI can answer questions about what’s on screen and perform more complex actions across apps, while also adding smarter Search and Spotlight through a rebuilt indexing system.
Macworld also describes Safari upgrades that include AI-powered automation features such as Notify Me monitoring webpages and alerting when content changes, plus automatic password updates on supported websites.
Ars Technica frames Siri AI as a flagship feature across iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27, describing it as “a large language model-based and context-aware overhaul” of Siri.
Ars Technica adds that Siri AI is driven by Apple-developed models labeled AFM 3, including “AFM 3 Core with 3 billion parameters” and “AFM 3 Core Advanced, a 20-billion-parameter model.”
Across the interface, Ars Technica says users now have a slider to affect how transparent or opaque the “Liquid Glass” design is across the operating system, while Macworld says Liquid Glass refinements include improved readability and faster performance.
EU Access and Models
While macOS Golden Gate brings Siri AI to Apple silicon Macs, Xataka says Siri AI availability in the European Union is paused for iPhone and iPad due to the tug-of-war between Apple and the European Commission.

In Spain, El Debate says iOS 27 arrives with download availability at 19:00 local time on the mainland and 18:00 in the Canary Islands, while iOS 27’s Siri AI is limited to English and requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Diario AS adds that Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features are limited to iPhone 15 Pro and later models, and that “for now it’s only available in English” while it “will not reach Europe while awaiting legislation.”
