Tehran talks on ties
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Monday to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international developments. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Mirzoyan’s visit was part of ongoing consultations aimed at expanding bilateral ties and strengthening regional peace and security. Mirzoyan held one-on-one talks earlier, and the expanded-format meeting in Tehran followed those discussions, according to IRNA and Armenpress.
Araghchi and Mirzoyan exchanged views on ways to develop and expand bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan, as well as regional cooperation in the South Caucasus. Baghaei added that Mirzoyan was scheduled to meet with senior Iranian officials to discuss and exchange views on developing bilateral cooperation and regional cooperation in the South Caucasus.
Peace, neighbors, and 3+3
Araghchi told Mirzoyan that Iran’s approach is based on expanding relations with its neighbors, particularly in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Araghchi said Iran attaches special importance to its friendly and steadily growing relations with Armenia, and he linked expanding ties in the Caucasus and Central Asia to regional peace and security and to economic growth and prosperity. Araghchi expressed Iran’s readiness to continue multilateral talks and cooperation, including within the 3+3 regional format, to help consolidate the peace process and strengthen regional cooperation.
Araghchi welcomed the continued positive trend in relations and interactions between Armenia and Azerbaijan during the Tehran meeting. Araghchi also briefed Mirzoyan on developments in West Asia, particularly in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, and he described the consequences as “dangerous and destructive”.

Strait of Hormuz focus
Araghchi said the US-Israeli attacks were the root cause of insecurity affecting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has firmly defended and will continue to defend its national interests and security,” while also saying Iran would “never hesitat[e] to use diplomatic means to prevent the escalation of tensions.” Mirzoyan, in a phone conversation with Araghchi in August, prioritized maintaining friendly and good-neighbourly relations with Tehran based on mutual interests.
Mirzoyan underscored that Armenia is Iran’s friendly and neighboring country and placed great value on bilateral relations. The Iranian and Armenian foreign ministers continued their exchanges in Tehran on Monday as the talks covered bilateral ties and regional cooperation in the South Caucasus.
