Funeral draws crowds
A major memorial ceremony for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, was held on Tuesday at the Grand Mosalla of Imam Khomeini in Tehran, with the spiritual event beginning with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an and the playing of the national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Tehran’s Mosalla Mosque hosted the commemoration ceremony on Tuesday, where the message of gratitude was delivered by Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mostafa Khamenei, the martyred Leader’s eldest son.

The Tehran Times said the massive gathering in the capital drew an immense crowd from all walks of life, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, head of the Judiciary Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and senior military and political officials.
Mehr News Agency reported that the ceremony was hosted by his son and the current Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, and that top government and military officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, as well as foreign ambassadors and diplomats, also participated.
The Mehr account placed the burial five days after the late Leader was laid to rest in the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad, after five days of public funerals in Tehran, the central city of Qom, and in Iraq.
Patience and revenge
During the memorial service in Tehran on Tuesday, Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mostafa Khamenei quoted a Quranic message of patience and said patience “is in no way incompatible with revenge and confronting the world’s evildoers who were involved in these great crimes.”
Mehr News Agency also reported that speaking at the event, Hojjatoleslam Khamenei offered condolences to the Islamic Ummah, the Iranian nation, and Imam Mahdi (AJ), describing the loss as a great tragedy requiring patience.
The Tehran Times said Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei thanked the Iranian and Iraqi people for their massive participation in the funeral and memorial ceremonies of the martyred Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
In Tehran, the ceremony’s gratitude message was delivered by Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mostafa Khamenei, who framed patience as enduring tragedy while confronting those he described as involved in “these great crimes.”
The Tehran Times described the mourning as continuing across Iran and several other countries, with commemorations in Isfahan at the Golestan-e Shohada Husseinieh and in Mashhad at the holy Imam Reza Shrine where the late Leader’s sons stood alongside prominent religious scholars to receive condolences.
Regional mourning and politics
The Tehran Times said the official state mourning period concluded with an emotional burial ceremony at the holy Imam Reza Shrine last Thursday, after the ceremonies extended across borders with massive processions passing through the holy Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala.
Mehr News Agency reported that Ayatollah Khamenei was assassinated along with four members of his family and senior military officials on February 28 in a joint US-Israeli airstrike targeting his office in downtown Tehran.
In a separate account of the broader funeral context, Masrawy described how mourning rituals continued for several days at Tehran’s Musalla, where the coffin was laid out to receive delegations to the sound of formal music titled The Martyred Leader, composed of six pieces.
Masrawy said the reception of the Saudi delegation involved verse 13 of the Qur’an, while the Qatari delegation involved the second verse from Surah Al-Fath, and it noted that Tehran issued no official comment on the controversy surrounding the welcoming of the delegations.
Fars News Agency in Isfahan reported that 3,000 Isfahan students gathered at the graves of the martyrs of the Ramadan War in the Golestan Martyrs precinct and participated in the national student campaign 'We Must Rise,' shouting slogans including 'Labbaik ya Khamenei' during a power outage in the Golestan Martyrs Hall.
