Agentic breach disclosed

Chainalysis disclosed that an external attacker used "offensive agentic techniques" to gain unauthorized access to its systems and internal tools. Chainalysis said the exposed information included platform user IDs, full names, email addresses, and organizational role labels for users provisioned on its platform. Chainalysis said its investigation found no evidence that attackers accessed investigation content, authentication credentials, or session tokens.

Chainalysis also said it was working to investigate the incident, patch vulnerabilities, and strengthen its systems. Chainalysis clarified that the breach had no connection to the recent $6.3 billion Binance theft.

What data was exposed

Chainalysis told customers that "Some non-sensitive customer data" was accessed, including user IDs, full names, email addresses, and organization role labels. Chainalysis said it was still determining which records were accessed for each organization and would provide a detailed breakdown once that analysis was complete. Chainalysis said it had notified customers and engaged external cybersecurity experts to investigate the unauthorized activity.

Chainalysis characterized the accessed categories as non-sensitive customer data, while the combination of names, email addresses, and job-role labels could still reveal who works on investigations, compliance, security, or financial crime matters. Chainalysis said it was using large language models to support its security review and harden its systems.

Chainalysis said it detected the external attacker during October and continued investigating, patching vulnerabilities, and strengthening security across its platform.
