Chud the Builder Dalton Eatherly Released On Bond After Clarksville Courthouse Shooting

Social media personality Dalton Eatherly, known as “Chud the Builder,” was released from the Montgomery County Jail on bond after being charged with attempted murder in connection with a May 13 shooting outside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Clarksville, Tennessee.

WKRN reported that the Davidson County district attorney’s office said Eatherly’s release came after a judge reduced his bond on Friday, Aug. 7, and that he had been in custody for nearly three months for his connection to the May 13 incident.

The shooting began as a fight outside the courthouse, authorities said, and WKRN said Eatherly claimed a man pointed and laughed at him before allegedly following and punching him, after which Eatherly said he drew his weapon.

Court records cited by WKRN show Eatherly was scheduled for a civil debt appearance that morning in Montgomery County, and after the shooting he was held on a $1 million bond and charged with criminal attempted murder, employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Prosecutors said Eatherly approached Joshua Fox and his wife outside the courthouse, and when Fox later approached Eatherly, prosecutors said Eatherly appeared to reach for his gun before Fox punched him.

News Channel 5 Nashville said that during the fight that followed, prosecutors said Eatherly fired seven shots, striking Fox five times and himself at least once, and that Fox was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for lifesaving surgery while Eatherly was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm.

Complex reported that Eatherly, real name Dalton Eatherly, was heard threatening to hit Fox if he said “all that chimp out shit” in a livestream after the shooting, and it also quoted Eatherly saying, “[He] started wailing on me. Even after I had to defend myself by shooting him,”.

Complex further described Eatherly’s account that he drew his weapon after Fox approached and punched him, and it said one of the bullets impacted Eatherly, who was treated for a gunshot wound in his arm.

Alongside the attempted murder case tied to the May 13 shooting, Eatherly faced a separate Davidson County case after he reportedly made racial statements at a Nashville steakhouse and refused to pay the nearly $400 bill, according to WKRN.

WKRN said Eatherly’s bond was also revoked in Davidson County after a June appearance for misdemeanor charges, and it reported that a judge revoked his bond citing concerns over the violent content of his social media posts.

WSMV reported that Eatherly bonded out of jail on Monday morning and that a spokesperson for the Office of the District Attorney General in Nashville confirmed Eatherly posted bond in Davidson County, with Director of Communications Steve Hayslip writing, “Last Friday, our Assistant District Attorney tells me the Judge (despite our objection) granted a Bond to Dalton Eatherly for 15,000 dollars,”.

WSMV added that Hayslip said the District Attorney’s office will “immediately file a Motion to Revoke his bond” if he “reoffends while awaiting trial,” while the attempted murder case remains active and has been sent to a grand jury for review.
