Diego Maradona Jr. Chants For Palestine During Solidarity Match In Naples

Diego Maradona Jr. chanted in support of Palestine during a solidarity football match in Naples between the Palestine Stars team and its Italian counterpart.

The match took place at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples and included a friendly solidarity match with several former Palestinian national team players and a group of former Italian football stars.

WAFA said the event featured the presence of President of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rajoub, and Palestinian flags were raised in the stands.

WAFA reported that the match ended with a 6–2 victory for the Palestine Stars team, and that Rajoub honored Maradona Jr. at the conclusion with a shield presented by the Palestinian Football Association.

WAFA described widespread expressions of solidarity with the Palestinian people, saying chants in support of freedom and justice echoed throughout the stadium.

WAFA added that Maradona Jr. wore the Palestinian keffiyeh during the match, tying his participation to visible support for the Palestinian cause.

In a separate Naples-related report, Fanpage recounted that Hugo Maradona’s funeral took place in the church of San Vitale Martire a Fuorigrotta on 29 December 2021.

Fanpage said that on Hugo Maradona’s coffin were placed the shirts of Calcio Napoli and Club Atlético Boca Juniors, and that after cremation the ashes would go to Buenos Aires.

WAFA framed the match as reflecting the humanitarian stance for which Diego Armando Maradona was known, particularly his support for the Palestinian cause.

WAFA said the event underscored international solidarity with the Palestinian people and confirmed that their cause remains present in sporting and humanitarian arenas around the world.

Fanpage reported that Diego Maradona Junior sent a message for Hugo Maradona that began: "Buon viaggio Tío!" and included the line "In questa vita spesso siamo stati in disaccordo".

Fanpage also quoted Gianinna Maradona recalling Hugo as "il combattente più feroce se mi vedeva con un ragazzo" and described how the Naples city council commemorated Hugo during a session with a minute of silence.
