UN expert: Gaza not over
Francesca Albanese said, "The situation on the ground is catastrophic," as she argued that Israel's US-backed annihilation of Gaza continues into the fourth year. Francesca Albanese told Anadolu that "the destruction of Gaza is not over," and she said "Seventy percent of the strip is under the control of the [Israeli] army" as it levels areas and creates "an environmental catastrophe, a humanitarian catastrophe."
Israel's assault began after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed more than 1,100 Israelis and others and left over 240 people abducted. Israel's forces have killed at least 74,237 Palestinians and wounded at least 175,206 others in Gaza, citing Gaza Health Ministry figures, and it said the UN Children's Fund called the strip "world's most dangerous place to be a child."

US aid and the war
Josh Paul said, "The bottom line is that under both the Biden administration and the Trump administration, the US has continued to provide unconditional support for Israel," and he linked that support to the costs of US wars in the region. The US has provided at least $25.5bn in appropriations to Israel since October 7, 2023, and the most direct form of military support comes from government appropriations to Israel that account for $3.8bn a year under a 10-year memorandum of understanding signed in 2016.
The total also includes a supplemental security package of $14.1bn passed by Congress and signed into law in April 2024, and it described funding made up of Foreign Military Financing and offshore procurements. At least 74,243 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel that killed at least 1,139 people, and at least 1,460 Palestinians have been killed since the October 11, 2025 ceasefire went into effect.

Survivor testimony and missing
Kamel Abu Amsha told thedailystar.net, "People care about us Palestinians in Gaza when we're killed, but they don't want to hear about the pain we are going through everyday, alive, as human beings." Thedailystar.net said Kamel landed in Dhaka on April 5, 2024 after 170 days, and it placed him in Faridpur where he keeps waking every thirty minutes hearing thumping sounds of air raids.
Thedailystar.net reported that Kamel walked to class in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College (BSMMC) in Faridpur and that his life was confined to doctors' quarters, medical courses, and his phone. The Independent Commission for Human Rights said more than 11,000 people in Gaza remain unaccounted for, and it said the Palestinian Centre for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared estimates between 2,500 and 3,000 people are suspected of enforced disappearance.
