Hamas And Hezbollah Delegations Meet Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi In Tehran Funeral Ceremonies

Iran’s late Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei was honored in Tehran as Hamas and Hezbollah delegations met Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during funeral ceremonies on Saturday.

İlke Haber Ajansı said the meetings were held to discuss regional developments and reaffirm solidarity with Iran following the assassination of Sayyed Khamenei during the recent US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic.

The Straits Times reported that Iran-backed Hezbollah and Hamas attended the funeral ceremonies of Ali Khamenei on July 4 in Tehran, with envoys meeting Araghchi as crowds paid respects during the multi-day ceremonies.

The Straits Times also said Khamenei’s death in a US-Israeli strike on Feb 28 triggered regional conflict, with people gathering at the Grand Mosalla religious complex in Tehran on July 4.

WANA said Araghchi thanked representatives from more than 70 countries for attending the memorial ceremony for Khamenei, describing Iran as honored to host the delegations.

WANA described separate meetings in Tehran, saying representatives of Hezbollah met with Araghchi and that the head and members of the leadership council of Hamas also held a separate meeting with the Iranian foreign minister.

The Straits Times identified Hezbollah’s delegation as headed by senior official and former minister Mohammed Fneish, and said Hamas’ delegation was led by the head of its political bureau, Mohammed Darwish, with Bassem Naim among other bureau members.

WANA reported a drone light show featuring 2,000 drones illuminated the skies over Tehran on Saturday during the funeral ceremony for Khamenei at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla.

The Straits Times said most foreign officials and dignitaries paid their respects on July 3 to Khamenei, who ruled Iran from 1989 and was killed aged 86 along with several members of his family and top officials in a US-Israeli strike on Feb 28.

DW reported that Al Arabiya said Iran–U.S. talks will resume on July 11 after the conclusion of the multi-day funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei, with main topics including Tehran’s sanctions, Iran’s blocked assets, and the nuclear issue.

DW also said Iran and the United States last held indirect technical talks on a Wednesday in Doha, and that based on Iran’s position the two sides had reached an understanding on freeing a portion of Iran’s blocked assets worth billions of dollars.

WANA said Donald Trump told reporters he was surprised by the large turnout and emotional scenes at the funeral ceremony, and claimed that Iranians were “pleading for a deal.”

DW added that on Sunday Tir 14 the government announced a nationwide official holiday to facilitate people’s attendance at the funeral, and that the public farewell began officially on Saturday Tir 13 (July 4) with the opening of the northern doors of Tehran’s prayer hall.
