The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare notified airport officials and began contacting travelers who shared flights with the infected person.

Measles is highly contagious and can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.

The incident occurred in a state with one of the lowest measles vaccination rates in the U.S.

Health officials urged anyone who may have been exposed to consult healthcare providers about vaccination.

The Boise exposure came as Utah's measles outbreak became the most active in the country.

More than 121 cases were reported in the previous three weeks.
