SICI Perpetuals Launch
Injective launched the Super Intelligence Compute Index (SICI) as a perpetual futures market tracking rental prices for five Nvidia GPUs, and the market lets traders take leveraged positions on whether the index will rise or fall. Injective said the SICI basket tracks rental prices for Nvidia’s H100, B200, H200, A100 and RTX 4090 chips, and it uses USDC as margin with up to 10x leverage. LO:TECH calculates the benchmark hourly using a trailing seven-day average of weighted rental-price data, and Injective said the index assigns the largest weight to the H100 at 40%.
Injective said the index is updated hourly and that it builds on its August 2025 introduction of a market tied to Nvidia H100 rental prices, expanding from a single GPU model to a five-chip index. Injective described the product as a way for AI developers and infrastructure providers to hedge exposure to rising rental bills and falling rental revenue, using compute marketplace data compiled by LO:TECH.
Weights, Oracles, and Method
Injective said the SICI benchmark assigns 40% to Nvidia’s H100 SXM 80GB, followed by 25% to the B200 and 15% to the H200, with the A100 SXM 80GB and GeForce RTX 4090 each accounting for the remaining 10%. LO:TECH gathers reference prices in dollars per GPU-hour from compute marketplaces, and Injective said each marketplace counts once for each chip while observations pass validation and outlier checks before entering the calculation. Injective said the methodology rebases each GPU’s reference price to 100 at the July 22, 2026 daily fixing, and it then publishes a trailing seven-day average of the hourly basket.
Injective said LO:TECH calculates a reading every hour in UTC and uses the 19:00 UTC reading as the daily fixing, and the announcement described the calculation as reproducible from archived observations. Pluang framed the launch as an index that acts like a stock index but is based on hourly GPU rental prices, while it also tied the product’s success to liquidity and the reliability of the pricing oracle.
AI Compute Cost Stakes
Injective’s SICI launch arrived as companies renting AI computing power faced questions about whether they can recover the cost of building and operating GPU infrastructure, and Cointelegraph pointed to Gartner’s warning that more than 80% of specialist AI cloud providers could cease operating independently by 2030. Elon Musk said more than 200 neocloud providers could face failure or consolidation as lenders become reluctant to finance companies dependent on AI data center revenue, and he linked the concern to his “Super Intelligence” business reported by Cointelegraph. Bloomberg reported that Microsoft, which has forecast roughly $175 billion in capital expenditures for 2026, offered voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 eligible employees as it sought to reduce costs amid rising AI infrastructure spending.
Meta, after investing more than $100 billion in AI, cut 8,000 jobs in May as part of a restructuring aimed at reducing costs, according to Cointelegraph. Injective said the SICI perpetual itself was already available for ecosystem integration, and it said it planned to introduce another onchain financial product in the coming days.
