Iranian missiles and drones damaged US naval assets and thwarted Washington's expansion plans. Saudi-led coalition intercepted missiles and drones over Riyadh and southern regions.

US ships hit, talks loom

Iran’s Navy Deputy Commander of Operations Rear Admiral Farhad Fattahi said Iranian missile strikes and drone operations inflicted damage on US naval assets and thwarted Washington’s plans to advance into Iranian territory.

Fattahi said Iranian forces struck the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with a missile, inflicting damage, and targeted the US destroyer USS Arleigh Burke, forcing it to end its mission and return via the Cape of Good Hope.

Fattahi also said Iran’s missile and drone operations prevented US and Israeli forces from approaching the Iranian coastline or entering the country’s territorial waters.

Separately, Ali Baqeri Kani, the deputy secretary of Iran's top security body, told state television that senior Saudi, Pakistani, and Turkish officials would visit Tehran for regional security talks on October 26.

Saudi Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy Dr. Rayed Krimly confirmed that representatives of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan would meet with Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian and Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

Houthis strike, airports reopen

Saudi Arabia’s coalition spokesman Major-General Turki al-Maliki said Saudi forces intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile launched towards Riyadh and also destroyed a drone in the Riyadh region. The coalition reported that it intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile aimed at Khamis Mushait, and it later reported the interception of 10 ballistic missiles fired towards southern Saudi Arabia. Saudi civil defence authorities said the fall of debris after the destruction of two ballistic missiles in Khamis Mushait and Ahad Rafidah caused two injuries, and the shrapnel also damaged three residential buildings and seven vehicles.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree warned that Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport remained a "military target" and said the Yemeni Armed Forces warned airlines, airport staff and travellers against using it. The airport resumed operations at two terminals on Sunday after an October 10 attack that the Houthis said killed 13 people and wounded more than 300.

Threats, pressure, and winter gas

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Tehran and its proxy groups could try to disrupt Israel's October 27 elections, saying, "We have intelligence signs that our enemies, Iran, and its proxies, could challenge us with attacks in order to disrupt the elections."

Netanyahu added, "Don't test us. You will suffer disproportionate blows," as the video was released by his office on October 25.

Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf urged a nationwide campaign to cut natural gas consumption by at least a tenth as winter approaches, saying, "To get through the approaching winter, a nationwide effort is essential...to reduce gas consumption by at least 10 percent."

Qalibaf said consumers would receive payments directly into their bank accounts for gas saved, linking the winter shortages to the country’s war with the United States and Israel.

In parallel, CENTCOM said Adm. Brad Cooper visited the Strait of Hormuz on October 25 and said "More than 3,000 commercial vessels have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz" with support from CENTCOM forces over the last six months.
