Tunnels Hit, Quake Follows
A 4.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in southern Lebanon after an explosion targeting a Hezbollah tunnel network beneath the strategic Ali al-Tahir heights, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Aajil said the explosion followed intensified strikes in recent weeks, with the occupying state announcing its forces destroyed Hezbollah’s underground infrastructure in the highlands.
Israel’s military said it managed to 'disassemble the subterranean routes' and complete what it described as 'operational control' over the area, while an Israeli official said the infrastructure was built with 'joint funding and planning' by Iran.
Al-Andaibindint al-‘Arabiyya reported that a “violent explosion” on Tal Al-Taher (Ali al-Tahir hill) was followed by the 4.1-magnitude earthquake, and said the Israeli army stated the infrastructure extended over more than two kilometers.
In the same reporting, the Israeli army said the underground complex included “dozens of missiles, Iranian-made shells and drones, in addition to machine guns and dozens of anti-tank missiles and hundreds of mines and improvised explosive devices.”
Claims, Bodies, and Control
Al Jazeera said Israel’s military destroyed a network of Hezbollah tunnels on the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, and reported that “dozens of bodies of Hezbollah fighters were found inside the tunnels.”A
Aajil described the highlands as a strategic site that overlooked parts of southern Lebanon, saying it housed eight underground routes containing weapons, drones, and military equipment.
Al-Jazirah Net said the operation used more than 1,100 tons of explosives in targeting Talat Ali al-Tahir, and quoted the Israeli army’s claim that the blast reached tunnels and infrastructure linked to Hezbollah.
Al-Jazirah Net also reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the hill as the “largest Iranian site outside Iran,” while Brig. Gen. Hassan Joneh argued that “Destruction may affect tunnels, fortifications, passages, and facilities.”
In Al-Jazirah Net’s framing, it said the key question was whether destroying the tunnels dispelled the ability to use the hill in any future confrontation, distinguishing destruction from operational control.

ABNA English said Brigadier General Hassan Jouni viewed Israel’s simultaneous operations in multiple areas as an approach beyond responding to Hezbollah’s drone attacks, adding that Israel is seeking to completely change the field equation in southern Lebanon.

Al-Khaleej Newspaper reported that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stressed that “the time has come for the state to return to the south,” while the American Embassy in Beirut said “southern Lebanon does not belong to regional actors or militias.”
Al-Khaleej Newspaper also cited an international report by Human Rights Watch and the Harvard International Human Rights Clinic at Harvard Law School titled “Burned Out of Control: The Inhumane Effects of White Phosphorus Ammunition and the Need for Stronger Law,” saying it documented 23 verified incidents of Israel’s use of these weapons in southern Lebanon between March and May 2026.
In the same report, Al-Khaleej Newspaper said white phosphorus munitions “are not presently governed by any specific treaty,” and linked the documentation to the need for “a new international law to regulate these devastating weapons.”
