The Times of Israel said two US officials told Channel 12 that the information related to general dialogue between Iranian officials on potentially assassinating Trump rather than a specific plot, while France 24 reported that US media outlets said the plan was “specific” and may explain why Trump chose to switch planes when leaving the NATO summit in Turkey earlier this week.

Trump, who has said he is “on every list,” told reporters aboard Air Force One, “They want to take out the U.S. leader — me. I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists,” and the White House referred questions about the reports to those remarks.

The reports arrived as renewed US and Iranian attacks raised fears of a return to all-out war, and France 24 said the warning came as Trump departed Turkey after the NATO summit in Ankara and after US launched fresh strikes against Iran, which borders Turkey.

Trump’s remarks and security

In an interview with The Post, Trump said, “I’ve left instructions — if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before,” and he framed the threat as Tehran wanting him dead “for a long time.”

Reuters reported that during the funeral for the killed supreme leader, Iranian demonstrators unfurled giant banners calling for Trump’s killing, and one eulogist asked, “Why shouldn’t we kill the one who killed my imam and my leader?”

CBS News reported that the Israeli intelligence shared with the US was unspecified and did not include a formal plot, while France 24 said CNN reported Washington had monitored “a steady drumbeat” of intelligence about possible plans to assassinate Trump but that the warning from Israel was new and concerned a specific plot.

The Times of Israel said Trump unexpectedly left Turkey aboard an older Air Force One rather than the newly renovated Qatari-donated jet, and it cited the New York Times reporting the plane switch was made at the request of the US Secret Service “as a security precaution.”

Ceasefire strain and next steps

The intelligence warnings unfolded alongside a breakdown in US-Iran diplomacy, with the New York Post saying Trump called off the US-Iran cease-fire and their nascent memorandum of understanding after Iran fired on three ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday and Tuesday.

Israel recently shared intelligence with the United States indicating Iran had developed a fresh plan to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to a Wall Street Journal report Thursday citing people familiar with the matter

In response, the New York Post said Trump removed the US waiver on Iranian oil sanctions and launched nearly 200 strikes across Iran on Tuesday and Wednesday, while the White House signaled it was still committed to the memorandum of understanding even as Trump declared earlier this week that the framework deal to end the Iran war was “over.”

The Times of Israel quoted a senior US official saying, “President Trump made his feelings very clear yesterday in no uncertain terms. Iran’s attacks on these innocent vessels are acts of terrorism,” and it added that the MOU was performance-based and Iran’s actions constituted failed performance at an unacceptable level.

With hostilities escalating and Israel preparing for multiple scenarios, Channel 12 reported in The Times of Israel that the fighting had remained confined to the Gulf and had not spilled over into Israel, but that Jerusalem was preparing for multiple scenarios given concerns the situation could deteriorate rapidly.
