JPM Coin heads to Ethereum

JPMorgan said it is expanding JPM Coin, its dollar-denominated deposit token for institutional clients, to Ethereum, Bloomberg reported. JPM Coin represents dollar deposits held at JPMorgan and is designed to let institutional clients make blockchain-based payments and settle tokenized asset transactions around the clock.

JPMorgan chose Ethereum because the blockchain offers liquidity and is already used by institutional clients, Emma Landriault said in an interview with Bloomberg. JPMorgan’s move expands its blockchain efforts beyond its private Kinexys network, which processes more than $7 billion in transactions daily.

What Landriault says

Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs at JPMorgan, told Bloomberg that Ethereum’s liquidity makes it attractive for crypto companies seeking on-chain payments and for financial firms that settle trades or back tokenized assets. Landriault said JPMorgan’s expansion aims to serve crypto firms that want to make blockchain payments and financial firms that need a digital token to settle trades or back tokenized assets.

Benzinga said JPM Coin will allow institutional clients to make blockchain-based payments and settle tokenized asset transactions around the clock. Bloomberg reported that JPMorgan did not specify when JPM Coin would become available on Ethereum, and CoinDesk said the bank had not responded to its request for details before press time.

Institutional tokenization stakes

JPMorgan’s Ethereum expansion follows JPMorgan’s November 2025 rollout of JPM Coin on Base, and it comes as JPMorgan broadens its availability beyond Base. Benzinga said the expansion introduces peer-to-peer transfers across Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible networks, including Ethereum and Base.

Benzinga said JPMorgan launched two tokenized money-market funds on the network in December 2025 and May 2026. Quartz said Kinexys described Ethereum’s “established depth of onchain liquidity and tokenized assets” as the reason it is the logical next public blockchain for the token.
