Al-Mazroub seized
Sudan’s army said its soldiers captured the town of al-Mazroub after fierce fighting with the Rapid Support Forces, as the war entered its three-and-a-half-year stretch.
Mohamed Deidan, spokesman for the army’s special forces, told the Anadolu news agency that “The Sudanese army has taken full control of al-Mazroub after battles with the Rapid Support Forces,” and he described the capture as a step to cut RSF supply lines.

The Al Jazeera report said the SAF pushed the RSF out of much of the state, while the RSF still controlled almost all of Darfur and parts of Kordofan.
The ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English report said the army’s General Command recaptured Al-Mazroub after “fierce battles,” and it placed the town about 130 kilometers northwest of El-Obeid.
The ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English report added that Mohamed Deidan announced on Facebook that army troops had entered Al-Mazroub at 9 a.m. Friday, and it described the town as an important livestock market and a military supply route during the war.
Blue Nile “knockout blow”
Sudan’s army said it delivered a “knockout blow” to the RSF and the allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North in Blue Nile state, and it said the Fourth Infantry Division targeted the two groups in the Minza and Bashkarkad areas. The Anadolu Ajansı report said the operation inflicted “heavy losses in lives and equipment,” disrupted movements and thwarted attempts to advance toward army positions, while it did not provide casualty figures. Blue Nile Governor Ahmed al-Omda Badi said the RSF launched drone attacks on the governor’s house and that the aircraft were intercepted by air defences, and he did not give details about casualties or damage.
The Al Jazeera report said there was no immediate comment from the RSF on the army’s account, and it said the RSF still controlled almost all of Darfur and parts of Kordofan. The Anadolu Ajansı report said the UN had previously said drone attacks had killed 1,100 civilians in Sudan between January and June this year, and it placed that figure in the context of the conflict’s wider escalation.

Humanitarian pressure and diplomacy
The Al Jazeera report said the shifting front lines had done little to ease Sudan’s humanitarian catastrophe, and it stated that about 19.5 million people were facing acute hunger. The Al Jazeera report said the United Nations-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification hunger monitor warned that 14 areas in North Darfur, South Darfur and South Kordofan were at risk of famine. The Al Jazeera report also said the conflict had displaced 14 million people, and it described Sudan’s civil war as having erupted in April 2023 in the capital, Khartoum, after months of tensions between the SAF and the RSF.
The Jerusalem Post report said US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos proposed a 90-day ceasefire followed by negotiations, and it quoted Amjad Farid warning that the plan could result in a de facto partition of Sudan similar to the Libyan model. The Jerusalem Post report said Farid told Reuters from New York that “Mr Boulos seems to be putting pressure on us to accept a de facto partitioning of the country similar to the Libyan model,” and it added that Farid said al-Burhan’s visa to attend the UN General Assembly in New York had been withheld.
