Paris knife attack

A man attacked three women with two kitchen knives in Paris, France, near Porte de Clichy in the north of the capital on Monday, and French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the women were aged 19, 24 and 36.

Nunez said two of the women were seriously wounded and in critical condition, while one was hit in the lower back and the other in the abdomen, and the three were taken to hospital around 11:30 a.m.

A bystander account from waitress Kheira Dellabed, 54, described seeing "a man walk by with two knives and stab three people" before a young man with a small suitcase knocked the suspect to the ground.

In a separate account, the Guardian reported a video verified by Reuters showed the attacker with long black hair and a cream tracksuit wielding one big knife in each hand near Porte de Clichy on Monday.

Allah claim and caution

As the suspect was held down by an off-duty police officer and others, an amateur video clip captured him saying, "It is Allah who commanded me," while Nunez warned against jumping to conclusions about motive.

Nunez told reporters, "We must obviously remain very cautious regarding the motives behind this extremely violent act," and he said he was told the individual was making incoherent statements.

The Guardian added that the man lying on the floor in the video said, "It is Allah who commanded me," and it quoted Reuters-verified details about how bystanders pinned him to the ground.

In parallel, the Jerusalem Post said Nunez added that the suspect’s declarations were "incoherent" when he was being arrested, while police stated the man was arrested near Place de Clichy.

Detention and investigation

Nunez said the suspect was apprehended by an off-duty police officer, and he told reporters, "I pay tribute to him, it was a courageous act," as police continued to determine the suspect’s identity and motive.

Paris, France — A French off-duty policeman on Monday detained a man after he allegedly attacked and wounded three women in Paris with two kitchen knives, a minister and police said

The Guardian reported that Mohamed-Ali Bouhadjar, 26, filmed the video and told Reuters, "When I saw him stab a woman in the back, I started shouting: 'Come on, let’s stop him.'"

The French national anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office said it was considering whether to open an investigation, while the Guardian said the motive was unknown and police could not verify the identity of the attacker.

In the same Paris incident, multiple outlets placed the attack in the Porte de Clichy area and reported that two women were seriously wounded while their lives were not in danger, with one woman described as pregnant by the mayor of the northwest 17th district, Geoffroy Boulard.
