Mark Zuckerberg Publishes “The Future Is For Everyone” AI Manifesto, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth Contradicts It

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word manifesto titled “The Future is for Everyone,” arguing that “everyone will have an exceptionally capable personal agent” that “will work 24/7 on your behalf,” and that it “will free up time for the things you enjoy.”

Futurism reported that during a Q&A last month, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth responded to an employee’s question about whether AI productivity gains would mean more time off by saying, “I hope that what we do with our extra time is to do even more and cooler stuff for the users who use our products every day.”

In the same account, Bosworth added, “Go to your parents and ask them: hey, like every time I get a chance to talk to my boss, ask me if I can have more days off,” framing the request as a career strategy question.

The Futurism piece also described Zuckerberg’s manifesto as promising “personal empowerment,” while contrasting it with Bosworth’s message to employees about how extra time should be used.

Zuckerberg’s manifesto argued that the U.S. should not restrict access to open-source models, and Variety quoted him questioning why AI companies generated discourse that was “so filled with doom.”

Variety also reported Zuckerberg wrote that “The notion that AI is so dangerous that the only safe path is an extreme concentration of power seems inherently problematic,” while also calling for collaboration with the government and reducing, not enhancing, training guardrails.

ABC News said Meta released a “permissive” open source license for Muse Glimmer, a lightweight AI model that can run on a personal computer, and that Zuckerberg warned of risks if advanced AI is concentrated under a select few.

In the same ABC News account, Zuckerberg urged reconsidering the position on distillation, quoting him: “Some have tried to frame distillation as harmful, but I think it is important to protect the principle that you can learn from anything you can observe.”

Zuckerberg linked his AI vision to infrastructure and community impact, and The Verge reported he said, “Sustainable infrastructure development means that communities must benefit significantly from each project.”

The Verge also said Zuckerberg described pledges to build energy-generating infrastructure “wherever we invest” and a commitment to “restore more water than we use in the watersheds where we operate by 2030.”

Forbes reported Zuckerberg called for further regulation by the U.S. government as AI becomes increasingly ingrained, while also saying Meta will launch a $1 billion “Future Is For Everyone Fund” to support communities near its data centers.

Reuters and ABC News both tied the manifesto to competitiveness with China, with ABC News quoting Zuckerberg’s argument that “The idea that AI is so dangerous that the only safe path is an extreme concentration of power seems inherently problematic.”
