Break-in at Westpoort
Protesters broke into the construction site of a new Microsoft data center in Amsterdam on Friday, with activists scaling fences and entering the site during an anti-AI demonstration. Dutch authorities detained 150-200 people for trespassing during the protest, and images on social media showed activists congregating inside the construction area. Microsoft said it was aware of the demonstration at the Westpoort Amsterdam site and told the public, “We understand that people feel strongly about the project, and we respect their right to express those views peacefully,” while adding, “However, we do not condone any actions that are unlawful or that put people's safety at risk.” Geef Tegengas said it organized the action and that hundreds of its supporters were blocking construction of the site.
“Dutch police said they detained 150-200 people for trespassing during the protest.”
