Matiks raises $10M in pre-Series A led by General Catalyst, with Screwvala and backers. India-based math and puzzle gaming platform to expand internationally and develop new game-creation tools.

Matiks gets $10M

Matiks, an India-based math, logic, and puzzle gaming company, raised $10 million in a pre-Series A round led by General Catalyst, with participation from Ronnie Screwvala and investors including Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners, and Untitled Ventures. Matiks said its app grew its daily users from 22,000 earlier in 2026 to over 300,000 by September, and it reported 2.2 million monthly active users that month. Matiks co-founder Sudhanshu Bhatia told TechCrunch, "For the last 10 years, the platforms have made entertainment consumption easy, but much of it is brain slop," as the company positions its math-related games as an alternative to algorithmic feeds.

Matiks said the funding brings its total raised to over $13.5 million and it has 41 full-time employees as it plans to expand into new markets and scale Jelo, an experimental game-creation platform. Rahul Humayan, a partner at General Catalyst, said the team’s "product taste and pace of iteration made it a no-brainer."

From play to creation

Matiks said users can choose Math, Puzzle, Memory, or Logic categories and play games against bots before playing against other users. Matiks said it uses challenges and quests to let players earn points, maintain streaks, and unlock games, while it also introduced a subscription this month that includes game analysis, tips, practice, and additional features. Matiks said it has also introduced Jelo, an experimental game-creation platform where users can build games for others to play, with Google’s Playground named as a competitor.

A TechCrunch reporter said, "The app hasn’t pushed me much toward purchasing more in-game items or shown distasteful ad pop-ups that would prompt me to uninstall the app completely." Matiks said it plans to localize to grow South Korea and Japan, while it reported traction in the U.S., South Korea, and Japan.

AI tools and monetisation

Matiks said it is testing a subscription and relies on in-game purchases, while it has not disclosed monetisation results beyond saying early indicators look promising. Rahul Humayan told TechCrunch, "We believe these are strong leading indicators for monetisation, with early results looking promising," as General Catalyst backs the company’s growth plans. YourStory said Matiks is launching an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered game creation platform that will enable users to build and publish games without writing code.

YourStory quoted Sudhanshu Bhatia saying, "With AI, we want anyone, anywhere in the world, to create a brain game that millions can play." YourStory said Matiks reported that in September 2026, 2.2 million people played 48 million games on the platform, and it added that users who complete a seven-day streak show 62% retention one month later.
