The London Ambulance Service said it sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer, and also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart said, "While still at an early stage of the investigation, we would like to reassure the community that we currently believe this to be an isolated, mental health-related incident."

Witnesses and police response

Witnesses described the scene near the Shaftesbury Theatre and Endell Street, with one witness telling The Guardian that the woman allegedly stabbed three people with scissors by the theatre before coming down the street.

The Guardian also quoted Arjan Gjorga saying, "I see her all the time, she’s a homeless person. She walks up and down asking for help, she visits the church at the top of the street."

Police said officers responded within minutes after receiving a number of reports, and Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart said, "A visible police presence will remain in the area while evidence is gathered at the scene".

The i Paper reported that the stabbing was mental health-related according to police and that a pair of scissors were recovered at the scene, as the woman remained in custody aged 47.

Injuries and investigation

The Metropolitan Police said two of the men were being treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing and the other two had been discharged, while the woman remained in custody.
