Tokyo District Court approved extending creditor repayment deadline to October 31, 2027. Extension covers base repayments, early lump-sum payments, and intermediate repayments.

Deadline pushed to 2027
Mt. Gox rehabilitation trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi secured Tokyo District Court approval to move the deadline for base repayments, early lump-sum repayments and intermediate repayments from Oct. 31, 2026 to Oct. 31, 2027, Japan Standard Time.
Kobayashi said repayments are largely complete for creditors who finished the required procedures without complications, while many others remain unpaid because they have yet to complete those procedures or because their payments ran into processing problems.

Mt. Gox began paying creditors in bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash in July 2024, and by March 2025 the trustee said more than 19,500 creditors had received their repayments.
Arkham Intelligence data attributed to Mt. Gox-linked wallets showed approximately 34,400 BTC as of Tuesday, worth about $2.8 billion at current bitcoin prices.
The trustee notice did not disclose how many creditors remain unpaid or how much bitcoin is still left to distribute.
Why some creditors wait
Kobayashi wrote that many rehabilitation creditors still have not received their Repayments because they have not completed the necessary procedures for receiving Repayments, and he also cited a considerable number of payments not going through due to issues during the process.
The CoinMarketCap report said the trustee changed the deadline for the base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments "with the permission of the court," after the previous deadline was Oct. 31, 2026, Japan Standard Time.

The CoinMarketCap report also said the trustee extended the deadline because it is "desirable to make the Repayments to such rehabilitation creditors to the extent reasonably practicable," while repayments were "largely completed" for creditors who finished required procedures and did not run into problems.
Arkham Intelligence data cited by Decrypt showed wallets linked to the estate still hold about 34,388 BTC, worth roughly $2.8 billion, and it noted a June shift of 10,422.65 BTC worth more than $739 million from cold storage.
Decrypt said that June movement did not show a sale or a new round of repayments, leaving the remaining distribution timetable undisclosed.
What remains at stake
Mt. Gox’s repayment plan disclosed in September 2023 covered about 142,000 BTC, about 143,000 BCH and roughly 69 billion yen in cash, and the trustee’s March 2025 update said about 19,500 creditors had been repaid in bitcoin and bitcoin cash.
Blockhead said the latest postponement is the fourth time the deadline has moved since 2023, and it described the pattern as a year-by-year slide that keeps the nearest reason to expect a large distribution farther out.
Arkham Intelligence data cited by Bitbo placed the estate’s remaining stash at approximately 34,400 BTC, and the same reporting said the trustee notice did not state how much bitcoin is still left to distribute.
Decrypt quoted Markus Levin, co-founder of decentralized data network XYO, saying the remaining amount is "small relative to the liquidity and trading volumes in today's Bitcoin market," and that it is "more of a recurring headline than a real source of downside pressure."
The CoinMarketCap report said the trustee began repaying creditors in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash through designated crypto exchanges in July 2024, and it said the extension keeps the timeline for the remaining distributions open for another 12 months.
