Dr. Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with His Excellency Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.”

Anadolu Ajansı reported that Araghchi and Lavrov discussed bilateral cooperation and “the post-ceasefire situation following the US-Israeli war against Iran” during their BRICS sidelines talks.

Rising Kashmir described Araghchi’s remarks at the BRICS sessions as a critique of Western influence, with Araghchi asserting that Iran’s defiance against “US bullying” was a struggle “well understood by many nations in attendance.”

Araghchi’s Condemnations

At the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Araghchi sharply criticised American pressure and coercion, and IBTimes India quoted him saying, “These crimes and the Western silence they are met with, can only take place if there is a sense of impunity.”

IBTimes India also reported Araghchi’s call for BRICS member states to “explicitly condemn violations of international law by the United States and Israel,” while urging steps to “halt warmongering and to bring an end to the impunity of those who violate the UN Charter.”

Rising Kashmir said Araghchi urged the bloc to form a united front, remarking that “it is high time for us to jointly step up and work towards making clear that those practices belong in the dustbin of history.”

Anadolu Ajansı reported that Araghchi and Lavrov emphasized what they described as the “potential and constructive role” of BRICS in reducing regional disputes and supporting collective security mechanisms in the Gulf region.

Hormuz and Regional Stakes

The BRICS sidelines diplomacy centered on the Strait of Hormuz, with Anadolu Ajansı reporting that Araghchi said the waterway had remained “fully open and secure” before Feb. 28, 2026.

Anadolu Ajansı added that Araghchi said Iran and Oman, as littoral states, provided free services including navigation assistance, maritime safety and environmental monitoring for passing vessels, before the “illegal aggression” by the US and Israel led to reviews regarding “new mechanisms” in this area.

NDTV Profit said Araghchi was expected to hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, with discussions likely to focus on the evolving regional situation and the disruption around the Strait of Hormuz, as several Indian ships and “hundreds of Indian seafarers are still reported to be stuck in the region.”

In a separate India-Iran contact, Al Jazeera’s Reuters-cited context in Al Sharq reported that Modi and Jaishankar discussed safeguarding freedom of navigation, with the Iranian Embassy in India saying “the basic condition for ending the war in the region is the immediate cessation of the attacks.”
