Oligarch Funds Bahamas Wedding
Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson married during a May ceremony in Palm Beach and then held a wedding weekend on two private islands in the Bahamas, where ProPublica reported that Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev “footed the bill for hundreds of thousands of dollars of wedding expenses.”

ProPublica said Kremlev paid to rent out one of the private islands where a reception was held and where guests slept, and also covered other big-ticket items like a fireworks show, with the guest list numbering around 50 and including Jared Kushner and Eric Trump.

In response, Bettina Trump confirmed on Instagram that Kremlev was a “dear friend” who “very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us AFTER our wedding.”
Pushback and Competing Frames
Bettina Trump’s Instagram post pushed back on the framing of Kremlev’s involvement as political, writing, “Friendship doesn’t require a political motive. Generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda.”
Newsweek reported that she clarified the Russian-linked celebration was separate from the wedding itself, saying, “Our dear friend Umar very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us AFTER our wedding.”
ProPublica also quoted national security experts expressing alarm, including Frank Montoya Jr., who said, “If I’m paying for your wedding, at some point, you’re going to owe me something.”
The Hill reported that Garcia demanded answers, writing, “Umar Kremlev spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the President’s son. What did he get in return? We need answers,” while the White House did not respond to requests for comment in the reporting described by ProPublica.

ProPublica described Kremlev as the head of the International Boxing Association and said the wedding payments came from an IBA-affiliated entity in Dubai that the boxing association uses for financial transactions.
