Reddit ends RSS, API

Reddit said it will end RSS support on November 13 and close its public API in March 2027, citing concerns over large-scale scraping and automated abuse. Reddit told moderators that “RSS has become a “common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse,”” and it warned teams to review their setups and complete migrations before the November 13 deadline to prevent disruption.

Reddit said it will stop offering public API access in March 2027, a change that will affect tools relying on programmatic access to Reddit conversations, including social listening products, research tools, and AI assistants. Reddit also said it is adding safeguards to Old Reddit, limiting access for logged-in moderators and recent users due to “abusive scraping and automated traffic.”

Migration paths for moderators

Reddit recommended moderators who relied on RSS channels for alerts migrate to the Discord Relay Devvit app, and it urged them to review their setups and complete migrations before the November 13 deadline. Reddit told users, “If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement,” and it framed that limit as a consequence of how RSS is used beyond moderation workflows.

Reddit said it will restrict access for logged-in users to those who have used Old Reddit within the last 90 days, and it also required developers building approved third-party apps and bots to register before January 12, 2027. Reddit said it will remove API access after January 12, 2027 for any developer that has not registered, and it positioned the registration requirement as part of its broader effort to manage automated traffic.

Developer deadlines and payments

Reddit said it will stop accepting new API requests on 31 October, and it will start cutting off apps that have not registered from 12 January. Reddit said “More than 14,000 apps and bots have registered,” and it described the migrations of DeltaBot, MagicEyeBot, and RemindMeBot as completed or near-complete.

Reddit paired the API and RSS timeline with a $1 million App Migration Program that offers $1,000 payments to eligible apps that successfully migrate, along with Developer Funds eligibility, free hosting, migration guides, office hours, and direct support. Reddit said registration for the migration bounty program closes on November 30, 2026, and it scheduled a further progress update for February 23, 2027 before public access closes for all remaining apps and users in March 2027.
