Kalshi gets index-linked contracts
S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC and Kalshi signed a partnership agreement on Monday that grants Kalshi preferred provider status for event contracts tied to major financial indicators, while S&P Dow Jones Indices will use Kalshi’s data to develop new indicators tracking expectations related to the economy, politics, and sports. Kalshi will offer contracts linked to major indicators, and the settlement of future contracts will be based on the official values published by S&P Dow Jones Indices, according to the two companies. S&P Dow Jones Indices also plans to leverage forecast data produced by Kalshi to build new indices that track topics including the economy, politics, and sporting events, expanding into the prediction market space.
Tarig Mansour, CEO of Kalshi, said S&P Dow Jones Indices’ indicators represent a major benchmark in financial markets, adding that making those benchmarks available through the platform represents an important step in expanding demand from individual and institutional investors. Kathy Seley, CEO of S&P Dow Jones Indices, said the collaboration broadens the company’s role in providing benchmark indicators to include one of the fastest-growing areas in financial markets.
Benchmarks meet prediction data
S&P Dow Jones Indices and Kalshi described the arrangement as a pairing of the world’s leading index provider with the world’s largest prediction market platform, and they said the licensing arrangement places Kalshi event contracts on the reference standard professional markets rely on every day. Tarek Mansour, co-founder and CEO of Kalshi, said, "S&P DJI is the gold standard for benchmarks," and he added that bringing that standard to Kalshi is an important step toward accelerating retail and institutional demand. Cathy Clay, CEO of S&P Dow Jones Indices, said, "Our collaboration extends S&P DJI’s role as the world’s leading benchmark provider into one of the fastest-growing categories in financial markets," framing the deal as an extension of the firm’s benchmark role.
The companies said event contracts turn expectations about real-world outcomes into prices, and they said applying S&P DJI’s index methodologies to Kalshi data would enable the creation of indices that reflect those expectations. The announcement did not disclose a timeline for either initiative, and it also did not disclose financial terms of the collaboration.
Legal terms and broader moves
S&P Dow Jones Indices published legal terms stating that "Kalshi’s contracts based on the S&P 500 and other S&P indices are not sponsored, sold or endorsed by S&P DJI," and it said S&P DJI makes no representation regarding the advisability of trading in such contracts. The same legal terms said S&P DJI has no liability for any errors, omissions or interruptions of the indices, and they also listed trademark notices for "S&P," "S&P 500," "The 500" and "US 500". The partnership followed an earlier October arrangement in which S&P DJI placed one of its benchmarks inside distributed-ledger infrastructure, and it referenced an October 13, 2026 announcement about an over-the-counter swap transaction on the Canton Network.
Cameron Drinkwater, chief product operating officer at S&P DJI, said the transaction paired a flagship index with controlled digital distribution, extending the firm’s credit franchise into on-chain finance. Separately, S&P Global, the parent of S&P Dow Jones Indices, completed its acquisition of blockchain security firm OpenZeppelin, and the deal expanded S&P Global’s risk assessment capabilities for digital assets.
