Saudi alerts tied to Yemen
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense lifted earlier emergency alerts in Jazan Province, Abha City, and Khamis Mushait Governorate after warning residents through its National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies about potential danger.

The Civil Defense urged people to “move to safe locations,” including instructions to “Stay indoors until the danger had passed,” and to avoid “open areas, windows, glass, balconies and rooftops.”
A separate Reuters report said the Houthis, who control much of the north of Yemen, have been launching attacks towards Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July, with strikes targeting Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.
Reuters also reported that Saudi Civil Defense issued alerts for Najran, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Abha and later issued warnings for Khamis Mushait and Abha a second time before lifting them again.
Expanding map, shifting focus
On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Saudi Arabia’s National Early Warning Platform expanded its emergency alert map to include cities along the western coast, including Yanbu and Jeddah, after days of warnings primarily focused on southern regions near the Yemeni border.
Yemen Online said the Civil Defense issued warnings covering Yanbu, Jeddah, Taif, Abha, Jazan, and Al-Ula before later announcing that the danger had passed in all six cities, and Reuters confirmed that Yanbu was among the cities that received warnings before the danger was declared over.Y
The Peninsula Qatar reported that the General Directorate of Saudi Civil Defense issued the warning in Khamis Mushait and Abha City on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, and added within minutes that “the danger had passed.”
In the same reporting stream, the Peninsula Qatar listed instructions to “Immediately proceed to the nearest safe place (inside a building or an interior room away from windows) and stay there until the danger has passed.”
Energy and border stakes
Multiple reports linked the Saudi alert cycle to the broader Yemen conflict and to pressure on Saudi security and energy infrastructure, including warnings that the Houthis’ attacks have targeted Saudi vessels in the Red Sea and raised fears around Bab Al-Mandab.

The Arab News report said the Houthis intensified attacks toward the Kingdom since declaring a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in July, with strikes also targeting Saudi-linked shipping in the Red Sea, and it described the East-West pipeline as a key route that was temporarily shut as a precaution after drones launched from Iraqi territory targeted it.
That same report said the roughly 1,200-kilometer East-West pipeline carries Saudi crude from oil fields in the Kingdom’s east to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, and it warned that a sustained disruption around Bab Al-Mandab could compound pressure on global energy markets.
In parallel, Enlace Judío reported that Riyadh warned it would respond with “firmness” to missile and drone attacks carried out by Iran-backed rebels, and it quoted Hazem al-Assad saying “the Yemeni response will continue and intensify as long as [Saudi Arabia] persists in its aggression against our people.”
