Surveillance Video Shows Gracey Falling Into the Sea; Investigators Say It Was an Accident

James 'Jimmy' Gracey, a 20-year-old University of Alabama student from Elmhurst, Illinois, was visiting Barcelona during spring break when he tragically disappeared on the night of March 17, 2026.

After two days of intensive search efforts, Catalan police discovered Gracey's body submerged in the waters near Somorrostro Beach on March 19, 2026.

The body was found at a depth of approximately four to five meters directly in front of the Shôko nightclub where Gracey had last been seen.

According to police sources from Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan regional police force, the discovery came after extensive searches involving underwater units, helicopters, and ground patrols around the Port Olímpic area.

Police also recovered Gracey's wallet floating in the water near the beach, and his phone was found separately, though Crime Online reports that someone was arrested in possession of the phone, though no additional details about the arrest were released.

According to L'Indépendant, the injuries found on Gracey's remains were consistent with a collision with rocks during his fall, and investigators noted that his body showed bruises consistent with repeatedly striking rocks for hours.
