Downtown Minneapolis shooting
A shooting in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA on Wednesday killed two people and injured five others, including three police officers, according to officials.

Police Sgt. Garrett Parten said officers responded to a report of one person shot at 15 East Grant St. at around 4:36 p.m. and then heard more gunfire from additional 911 callers.
Parten said responding officers entered the high-rise apartment, encountered victims, and followed gunfire to an upper floor where they encountered "a haze that significantly limited their visibility."
The suspected shooter was also dead, Parten said, and the city government told people to avoid a multi-block area that included Loring Park before later saying it was secure and that there was no further threat to the public.
Officials, witnesses, and agencies
Parten described the scene as "a tragic scene has unfolded that has impacted numerous lives," and he said three officers were injured, including two from gunshot wounds.
A witness quoted by ABC7 New York, Julius Bailey, said he heard a woman screaming and immediately started running away, adding, "I could tell he was trouble," after he counted eight shots.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said, "Minnesota is praying for our first responders," and the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were deployed to the scene.
The Guardian reported that video posted to social media showed police aiming rifles upward at an apartment tower near the Minneapolis convention center, while the New York Times said the building was in the Loring Park neighborhood on the south side of downtown Minneapolis.
What happens next
Officials said the investigation was ongoing, with police saying they had not publicly identified the suspect and that it was not immediately clear how the shooter died.

The New York Times reported that residents were warned to stay away from the downtown apartment building where the violence erupted, and it placed the address at 15 East Grant Street about half a block from the Minneapolis Convention Center.
ABC7 New York said Hennepin County Medical Center received seven patients but did not share additional information about the conditions of those wounded, while FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul said authorities confirmed three people were dead and three police officers were injured.
In parallel, the FBI Director Kash Patel said on X, "We will offer any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities," as Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth said she was praying for the victims of "this heinous crime."
