Syrian Interior security forces, working with Syria's General Intelligence Directorate, announced the thwarting of a “sabotage” plan in the Yarmouk basin area in the western province of Daraa, south of the country, which led to the arrest of a “cell affiliated with Hezbollah.” An internal security statement said the operation came after “precise and sustained security monitoring” of the cell’s attempt to “prepare and install launch platforms for rockets with the aim of carrying out attacks to destabilize security and stability.” Syrian authorities said they carried out the “dismantling of the launching platforms in full and seizing the equipment contained therein, while investigations with the detainees continue preparing to refer them to the competent judiciary.”
Anadolu Ajansı reported that Syrian authorities dismantled a three-member cell linked to Hezbollah in the southern Daraa province, and that the General Intelligence Directorate, in coordination with internal security forces, arrested the suspects in the Yarmouk Basin in western Daraa. The operation placed the arrests in the Yarmouk Basin, which lies in western Daraa province near the disengagement line with Israel, according to Anadolu Ajansı.
Hezbollah Denies
Hezbollah denied any link to the alleged cell and reiterated that it has no presence on Syrian soil, with Hezbollah’s media relations office stressing “unwavering commitment to Syria’s security, stability and the safety of its people.” Hezbollah urged Syrian authorities to “investigate attempts to implicate Hezbollah” in order to fuel tensions between Lebanon and Syria, and it called the “Israeli enemy” the “true beneficiary” of inflaming tension between the two countries. Al-Manar TV Lebanon said Hezbollah’s statement denied “any connection to an alleged cell” and reaffirmed that Hezbollah has “no presence on Syrian soil, nor any ties to security or military activities there.”
