Forum in Damascus
The Syrian-Chinese Economic Development Forum kicked off in Damascus on Tuesday, with a delegation of 16 Chinese companies exploring investment opportunities and developing partnerships with Syrian government agencies. SANA said the forum was launched at the Four Seasons Hotel in Damascus, and it included work sessions with the Investment Authority, the Sovereign Fund, and the General Authority for Customs and Ports.
Economy Minister Nidal al-Sha’ar told the opening that the forum marks a “new station in the cooperation between the two countries” and a step toward building partnerships and joint projects. Yi Ving, the Chinese delegation representative, emphasized that the forum aims at turning cooperation opportunities into practical projects through “market study, linking companies, and implementing joint investments.”

Private sector and sectors
Economy Minister Nidal al-Sha’ar said Syria is in a historical phase aimed at rebuilding a more productive and competitive economy open to the world, stressing that the aspiration is for an economy led by the private sector. The minister added that the state would provide the regulatory and institutional environment that “encourages competition, initiative, and investment,” while cooperation with Chinese companies opens opportunities in industry, infrastructure, energy, housing, and technology.
Fadi Ahmad Al-Muheimid, head of the Syrian-Chinese Business Council, said the forum brings Syria and China together around a common goal of building effective partnerships and making “a real impact on people’s lives.” The Chinese delegation representative Yi Ving framed the forum’s purpose as exploring prospects for developing bilateral relations, boosting investments, and transferring technology and industrial know-how.
Field visits and next steps
The forum program, which lasts two days, included sessions with Syrian bodies such as the Investment Authority and the Sovereign Fund, alongside bilateral meetings to develop partnerships and sign executable investment agreements. SANA said the agenda focused on launching a practical path to start Chinese investments in Syria and converting investment opportunities into projects and economic partnerships on the ground.
The forum also included field visits coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, including a real estate development project in Homs Governorate and the furniture manufacturing industrial city in Aleppo. The Anadolu Ajansı report said the forum runs for two days with the participation of 16 Chinese companies, and it described the program as sessions with Syrian authorities to discuss investment opportunities and their legal, financial, and regulatory requirements.
