Bus attack near Masyaf
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle carrying engineers and workers near Masyaf Bridge in Syria’s Homs countryside, killing seven people and wounding four others, according to Syrian authorities and local media. SANA reported that internal security forces were working to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, as civil defence teams transported the wounded and security forces cordoned off the area and closed the road.
An Anadolu Ajansı report said a bus came under "gunfire" in the countryside of Syria's western Homs province, with the Syrian Arab News Agency reporting seven deaths and four injuries. AFrance 24 reported that seven people were killed and four were injured in a shooting targeting a bus carrying engineers and workers for a private electricity company in Homs Governorate, while a security source earlier said five people were killed.
Conflicting casualty counts
A security source told AFP that five people were killed in the attack on the bus in Homs Governorate, while SANA and other reports cited seven deaths and four injuries. Al-Manar TV Lebanon relayed SANA’s account that a bus was targeted by unidentified individuals on the Masyaf Bridge, resulting in deaths and injuries, as the incident remained under investigation.
ANHA described the same episode as "7 killed, 4 injured after bus targeted in Homs," while the Homs Health Directorate source cited by SANA said the wounded were transported to hospitals in Homs. El Nuevo Diario said the bodies of the seven victims and the four wounded were transported to hospitals in the province of Homs, and it reported that no group had claimed the action and authorities had not established a possible motive.
Investigation and security
Syrian internal security forces began investigating the bus attack on the Masyaf Bridge to bring those involved to justice, as VDL NEWS repeated the SANA framing of the probe. SANA said internal security forces were working to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, while security forces secured and cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the shooting.
Notimérica reported that the Head of Internal Security of Homs, General Bassem Mohamed Shaaban, sent his "deepest condolences" to the families of the victims and called for calm as investigators gathered evidence. The incident added to a broader pattern of localized violence described by El Nuevo Diario, which said Syria had continued to see attacks against civilian and security targets and explosions on roads since the fall of the regime of Bachar al-Assad in December 2024.
