Tanker Hit Near Kharg
An Iranian tanker was hit by U.S. forces on Saturday near Iran's key oil export hub, Kharg Island, in the Gulf, Tasnim reported from the island’s anchorage area.

The Palestine Chronicle said Asr Iran reported the tanker was struck by four projectiles launched by US forces while the vessel was being unloaded, while also noting that initial accounts differed on the number of missiles or projectiles involved.
Reuters reported that there was no immediate official announcement by Iranian authorities and that U.S. Central Command did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
DW said neither the US nor the Iranian government have commented on the strikes, framing the reports as unconfirmed at the time of publication.
Energy Stakes and Escalation
Kharg Island is described across the coverage as central to Iran’s oil exports, with Reuters saying Iran exported 90% of its crude via Kharg Island before the war and that flows have been disrupted since a U.S. blockade began in mid-April.

The Palestine Chronicle added that the reported tanker attack comes only days after Trump invoked Kharg Island and said there was no evidence at the time that the island had actually been attacked, while warning the incident could mark escalation around an installation central to Iran’s ability to export oil.
