Trump’s sanctions push
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the United States would impose sanctions on Iran “a escala «sin precedentes»,” warning that any country that helps economically would face “enormes sanciones económicas.”

Trump described the effort as “Este será un día D económico” and wrote that “Contrabando de petróleo, líneas de intercambio, transferencias de efectivo, casas de cambio, registros de buques, empresas fachada: todo esto debe terminar YA.”
In a separate report, President Donald Trump said in an evening post that the measures would be an “ECONOMIC D-DAY” and called on allied nations to join in the sanctions effort.
The same report quoted Trump saying, “ANY country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.”
Iran rejects pressure
Iran dismissed Trump’s “Economic D-Day” threat as it sought a deal to end the war, with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi saying, “The so-called ‘Economic D-Day’ is a diversion from America’s own crisis.”
Araghchi added, “US economic terrorism threatens global economy and sovereignty worldwide,” while Trump had warned that other countries could face consequences if they continued doing business with Iran.
In another account, a senior Iranian security official, Mohsen Rezaei, told state-run IRIB TV that Iran would regard neighboring countries and other states joining the U.S. “economic pressure campaign” as “enemies.”
Rezaei said Iran would not allow oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf if regional countries supported the U.S. “pressure campaign,” and he said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the United States fulfills its commitments under a peace memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington in June.
Pressure meets blockade
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Iran it could face what he called the “greatest coordinated economic isolation in the history of the world,” saying the United States is preparing additional economic measures aimed at cutting Iran off financially.

Bessent’s warning came as the Trump administration increased pressure on Tehran over its nuclear program, regional aggression and threats to global shipping, and Iranian officials rejected the pressure and accused Washington of using economic threats as a political weapon.
In a separate report, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon had not ruled out kinetic attacks on Iran after the sanctions package, telling reporters, “If we need to use kinetic attacks, we will use them.”
Hegseth also said the United States “by no means rule out the use of kinetic attacks in the Strait of Hormuz or near Iran,” while the same report described Washington’s strategy as hardening economic sanctions to force Tehran back to the negotiating table.
